New 264 mag build

If it was a barrel that was going to be shot a lot and kept for a long time I would nitride it after the initial load work up proved it shot. Then it wouldn't matter the barrel composition (nitriding makes either rust proof and hard). SS is just nicer in that is resist rust and probably 75+% of the custom barrels made today are SS. Most of the time a SS barrel will last longer too.

The nitride is definitely a huge benefit!

Stainless resists heat quite bit better then CM, so all in all, a stainless barrel will outlast a CM barrel.

That's my understanding anyway.

Jorey I have gotten so much different feedback from experts that I am confused on this issue.

From what I have been led to understand the ONLY difference between the 2 is that SS is a little better in resisting corrosion.

Yep, that's what I have read as well...

Update:

Will has decided on the following for his LR build
Remington bully blue printed action
Tubbs recoil lug
Shillen Select SS match 1:9 twist finished at 28"
B&C Medalist stock with the aluminum bedding Block
6.5x20x40mm Mark 4 scope
1 piece picatinny rail
warne rings.

I would do a 8 or 8.5" twist if it was me. I'd also do something besides a Shilen but that's just me. Other than that it looks like it should shoot.

oh man I meant 1:8 twist in anticipation of the 140 LAB , where is my brain?
