hello

I have a rifle weatherby mark v cal 270wby, made in Japan, so, I used it a lot, and now the barrel already needs to be changed; now the situation is: repeat the cal. 270wby or change of cal. 7mm STW.

My 270wby using powder 7828 and 130grs nosler bt, it gets 3400-3450fps, with very good precision.

So the 7mm STW using 140grs nosler bt and powder 7828, gave me almost the same velocity 3400-3450fps. but with almost 8,0 grs more of powder.

now the cal. 7mm has the advantage to use bullets as heavies as the 175grs and the 270 has the 160grs, but i use the rifles for mountain hunting, for which the weight of the bullets to use rank in cal. 7mm of the 140-154grs and in the 270 of 130-140grs,

now I had stored cases, bullets and powder to use in the two calibers, alone serious question to define for which caliber???.

the rifles that at present have are: 240wby, 257roberts, 257wby, 270/243imp, 300wby and 340wby.

the rifle will be used when not require the 300wby and seek something more of impact that the 257wby, as for example in coues deer hunting,

I expect its comments

From a practicality standpoint, I say take your pick...BUT
7STW for better bullet selection/equal ballistics, 270 Wby if concerned with buying new components, or 7 Rem Mag for plain vanilla get the job done but with a little less velocity. Based on your current caliber selection, I'm guessing you like rocky road over vanilla? 7 STW or 7 RUM gets my vote with a 160 AccuBond for one do it all load.

It looks as if you really like the Weatherbys, so maybe you should stay the course, maybe even considering a 7mm Wby. You won't go far wrong with either cartridge. Each is a delight to shoot and to load for.

7MM Wby is very close to 7MM Rem. The 7MM. STW is about 150fps faster with the same barrel length. I don't know why but that's how they post. I would go with the STW. IMO.

The 270Wby is the hottest manufactured 270 on the market and it is a fine outstanding cartridge. Having owned and loaded as well as hunted with a 7mmSTW I have a definite soft spot for one. It will use more powder though, and eat your throat up even faster than the 270Wby will and I think it is easier to load for the 270Wby. Plus, if you ever sold the Mark V or traded it people want a Weatherby cartridge in a Mark V.

realy thanks for your letters.

I decided to make a 270 wby (good point bullet, thanks)

the contour will be same as factory but with a 26".

so i hope in a few weeks all was done,

thanks

You know what you're getting. Nothing wrong with the STW, but the Wby is also a fine cartridge.

I like the STW, and if I ever purchased a Weatherby, I'd like the Accumark in 7 STW. Problem is, they only made it one year in a special run. You still made a good choice. Like bullet said, it will probably have better resale value. Since you already have the brass for both, you might keep your eye out for one one of the 7stw accumarks. It would nicely round out your battery.

You know, Antelope Sniper, I actually ran across a pair of those 7mmSTW Accumarks in a small gunshop in rural north Alabama about a year and a half ago. Thought it was odd to see two of them in the STW, but the price was about what I could go buy a new one for - $1400 apiece. I thought that was steep, and wasn't really interested in the caliber at the time. I've since sort of come to be interested in everything based off of the 8mmRemMag case, but I doubt I'll ever own any of them except maybe the 7 and the 8. I'll let you know if I see another one of those STW's in my travelling around. Guns like that are not for everyone, and whoever bought those may tire of them and sell them soon enough.

Another option is to find a shot out Accumark and have it rebarreled...

realy thanks for your letters

my weatherby acction will be a 270wby mag and one of my friend sellme his weatherby acction another MARK V, so i will make a 7mm STW also.

live smale, so a thinking to get one rifle, but now i will get two rifles one in 270wby mag and another in a 7mm STW

I´m a happy hunter.

We have a saying where I work, 2 is 1 and 1 is none!! You should always have a spare!.. Scotty

Gus we been playing a lot with the 7MM STW for a long time now, first a Custom Rem 700 with a Douglas barrel metalife finish and Mcmillan Stock,
latter with a Rem700 Custom KS, and the last one a Weatherby Custom Shilen 28" Wiseman make.
I don´t think in any way a 270 Wby Mag can approach 7mm stw velocities.
With all those I could get 3450 fps with accubonds real easy, on the last
Weatherby with 83gr RX22 (hot load) I got 3560fps with 140 NAB. For sure you have a very big .22250 with the 7mmSTW.
I have a zero at 300mts, and for sure shoots very flat.
If I can help you with the project just call me you know where to find me in Monterrey-SUPER X, JOWEL.
