I just bought a Browning BAR ShortTrac - Oil Finish in a 300WSM.

It's one of those guns I've always wanted. Shot a few BARs over the years but never owned one.
Didn't really need it .... but.
I ordered a Vortex HS-LR 4x16x44 to put on it. I have that scope on my Sako 75 and like so, I figured I would keep the scopes the same / similar for my hunting rifles that I would take to the field most often.
A little research on the current BAR I'm finding that they are accurate for the first 3 shots and then with the heat and the auto action it starts to open up the groups to a couples of inches at 100yds. I found that statement many times so their is probably some truth to it. This being a hunting rifle where the first shot out a cold barrel is what matters most I should be fine.

I think every thing will be here for me to put together and shoot next week end. I hoping all will go well so I can use it on a up coming Bull Elk hunt in Oct.

I do believe you will be pleased with your new BAR. I've shot a few, and each was pleasantly accurate.

Those are very nice I hope you keep us up to date on how it handles and shoots, I have been thinking about one in 270 Win for my wife.....

2 guys in our hunting group shoot BARs one has the 7mm mag and the other 338win mag both are good rifles but like most auto loaders you have to keep them real clean

Blessings,
Dan

My Pop's has hunted with a BAR 30-06 for about as long as I have been alive, he bought a bunch of 180 Federal Premium 180 grain PT's. I wouldn't worry much about a BAR. Keep em clean, and just like any other rifle, they'll work!

They are a fine rifle, I almost bought one myself, but I'm a bolt action guy. I've handeld and shot this rifle at my gun club, and the are nice to shoot, and accurate as well. I even like this model over the Benelli R1  ..like the others said, just like any rifle, keep'em clean. Enjoy. and congrats, Lou

The only semi auto rifle that I have ever owned was a Ruger .44 Mag Carbine. I carried it in the car with the magazine in the glove box when I worked up in Northern Quebec and was driving between Toronto and Senneterre (Cadillac), Quebec a couple of times a month. It was 500 miles one way and 1/3 was dirt roads back then. If I kept the rifle clean, it worked fine. I liked it because it was short and powerful at close range (for black bears).
