Will be starting load work soon

Mike, that is a very sharp rifle. That Leupold looks really good on top of it also. Very sharp buddy. I wished it was a little closer to Christmas so I could get my daughter her very own little 260 Ruger. I think those are some fine looking rifles. Can't wait to hear of your load work. Good luck. Scotty

Thanks Scotty, Yeah, I think a standard short action stock like on my 358Win would have been just a little better looking than the compact stock but all and all it is a nice looking and easy handling rifle. Will start shooting soon.

S W E E T !!! Always cool to have something just a little different.

Can't wait to see the results -

Thanks powerstroke and POP, I forgot to mention that the barrel is free-floated.

Weighed my 260 on a digital scale and with scope it weighs exactly 7 pounds 6 oz.

I do not have my dies yet for the 260 rem, they should be in soon. I put a few rounds that were sent with the rifle. 129gr Hornady Spire Point, H4350, WLR primers and Rem brass. The rifle shows promise. I will make some real changes when I begin to handload and right off the bat I will change primers and of course powder and bullets.

Here is how it shoots with the above load.

Mike, I would be just about done with that kind of speed and accuracy right outta the gate. That is darn near a 270 Win speeds with a great bullet for all around hunting. Great shooting rifle, doesn't look like load development will be too awfully tough! Scotty

Have some real promise there. A 130 grainer scootin along and 3K fps is going to reach right out there.

Yeah, and that load is not quit a max load. I have some other options to consider with different powders and bullets. 3000fps is very do able with this rifle. There are no pressure signs with primer, bolt marks and the base did not expand much. I really have a good feeling about this one. All though it is an octagon barrel is is also a match barrel to boot. So, I just might get real lucky with this one.

I put a brand new VX-II 2-7x33mm on my 260 Rem and my rifle is in total wieght 7.486 Pounds and this will be great for spot an stalk. The VX-II with my good eyes are more than enough for what I will use this rifle for and after an all day hunt in the mountains I will appreciate the 7.486 pounds of light rifle. Here is how it looks with the scope:

The rifles balance actually feels better with this little lighter and shorter scope. Will put the VX-III 2.5-8x36mm on my 30-06 when my stock gets here.

Mike,

Beautiful rifle! I agree, some minor tweaking and you will be there is a load or two.
Light weight quick handling woods rifle for WT deer with some reach. Just about perfect in my book.

JD, I might get to liking this rifle to much and do most of my hunting with it. I like how it feels and it is shooting very well at the moment. Of course my 30-06 will be back and up running soon. Will have to do something with it at the range and in the field, but this 260 Rem is a dream to hold and expecailly shoot.
