The armour looks cracked out! Either that, or it is for very tiny elk.

Good one Gene.

Charlie,

That rifle is beautiful.

Thanks, I am having fun trying to get loads developed with all of the different bullet designs that are out there. However, I think that I am going to stick with the 286 gr Partitions, 250 gr Accubonds and maybe the Norma 286 bullets which I got a deal on. So far the 286 gr Partitions and Norma bullets are the best groups. I did not use a good load on the Accubonds and need to try another powder as I got 4 inch vertical stringing with the first powder.

...that's a really fine looking rifle, Charlie...

...but an elk rifle that packs it's self, & even drags your elk out for you, now that's really sumpthin...

Nice rifle, Charlie. Between being a slightly off-beat caliber and a #1, I like that a lot.

This one is a lot easier to carry, being 8-1/4 pounds with 22 inch barrel scope and rings. It is short and compact and will push a 250 gr Partition at 2500+ fps. Recoil is about the same as to .340 Weatherby (40 pounds) but the rifle is lighter and shorter making it easier to handle. It won't make the 500 yard shots that the .340 will but in western Washington that attribute is seldom needed in a jungle rifle.

What I get a kick out of, is shooting a 107 year old caliber (1905) in a modern single shot. Plus, I can always load it down to .45-70 load levels if desired.

Charlie, that is a fine rifle! I am sure that it is a pleasure to shoot. You will have a very accurate load for it in no time at all .

Blessings,
Dan

This rifle whacks my shoulder a little with the 286 gr bullets but I don't mind. It kicks about like the .340, no mystery there!
