Thanks. I have never used quick load. Is 97.3 grs of 7828 sc the max? I will start below that but I want to make sure I am working with the right number.

Note that I set the parameter for the overview at 61000 psi. Therefore, the charge or 75.6 grains is near max. Increasing the charge to a maximum generating under 63000 psi gives the following profile:

Code:
Cartridge : .30/338 Win. Mag.
Bullet : .308, 165, Nosler Accubond 55602
Useable Case Capaci: 76.481 grain H2O = 4.966 cm³
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 3.340 inch = 84.84 mm
Barrel Length : 24.0 inch = 609.6 mm
Powder : IMR 7828 SSC

Predicted data by increasing and decreasing the given charge,
incremented in steps of 2.0% of nominal charge.
CAUTION: Figures exceed maximum and minimum recommended loads !

The extra 0.4 grain will gain you 28 fps in a 24 inch barrel. That isn't significant in the real world.

Thanks. I was looking at the prop burn column. 97.3 grains seemed way high to me that is why I asked.

I am interested in buying quick load. What inputs do you have to know in order to get an accurate calculation? I have been reloading for over 20 years and have always used my books and my chronograph but i really like the data above. I have never seen a spreadsheet for a cartridge before today.

Thank you all very much. I have several wildcats and quick load would be great for me once I understand how it works.

I highly commend QuickLoad for hand loaders. It is a wealth of information. Among data input that is truly vital is overfill case volume. Deoxygenate some water (let it set overnight exposed to the air). Weigh the case empty (with primer in place or flash hole sealed with was) and then with the case filled until there is a convex meniscus. The difference is overfill case volume, which allows for more precise calculations. Generally, our chambers are slightly larger than SAAMI standards, which means to achieve projected velocities, we will require a slightly greater powder charge.

I echo everything Mike posted.. Wouldn't be without it..

Also, the 30-338 is a SWEET one! What is the rifle? I just passed on a beautiful Pre64 that was rechambered to a 30-338.. Still kicking myself in the butt a little!

BTW 200 gr PT's and 3000 fps is possible in that cartridge!

Gun is a pre 64 with Shilen barrel, McMillan stock, and Williams bottom metal. It was the 1 st custom gun I ever had built. My parents paid for 1/2 of it for my high school graduation present. It has a 3-12-56 zeiss victory on top of it and timney trigger.

I agree. I am very fortunate. I built the gun in 1993 and upgraded the scope about 4 years ago.

Wow. Now that's a cool build! Love to see a picture. The 308 Norma and 30-338 are two cool cartridges.

The rifle sounds like a keeper. When you have the chance, do post some photos.

ReLoder 22 would be a good one; it is assuredly a favourite of many who post on here. I buy it in five pound jugs.
