I want to get a shooter inexpensive rifle in 7mm-08. I have ammo/brass/dies/bullets/powder/primers so I might as well get something to shoot it. I do not need a fancy or expensive rifle and I have many other rifles for hunting also(Ruger/Rem/Tikka). I just do not want to spend a bunch on it and it will be a hunting/fun/user rifle. I was thinking of a savage($380) or a Vanguard($399) then I saw the Marlin($319). Anyone shoot a marlin? How are they? Likes/dislikes?? I plan to get a syn/blue rifle in whatever I get.

I am trying to collet more brass and a set of dies for a 257weatherby and that one will be a Vanguard unless I run into one heck of a deal on a other weatherby model. Not sure why I need(want) one as I have a super good shooting 25-06. But I have an itch that needs scratching............

I'm not sure that the Marlin is chambered in 7-08. You should take a look at the Stevens 200 for around or under $300. If you like the Accu-trigger enough to spend a bit more, then certainly get the Savage. They definitely shoot!

Get a Savage Stevens 200 for 350 or less from gunbroker. You can not beat the value. I had two and both were great!

Yes, Marlin now has a 7-08. I am testing a friend's 25-06 & it is a real shooter, the best overall deal for the money I have seen.

I havn't tried the Marlin bolt action but the 4x4s are selling good here. The Savage and their Stevens rifles are both good. I had to change the trigger in the Stevens to a Riflebasix. The "new" Vanguards have good triggers and I believe are the most rifle for the money. The two I have will give my Savages a run for their money in accuracy but are a little bit heavier. It's probably going to be mostly about price, availability and what catches your fancy. There aint a loser in the bunch.
 Good Luck

I just bought a WBY Vanguard with the Sage stock and man, it shoots really well. I paid 413.00 out the door for it. I put a set of Talley One Piece mounts and a Leupold Vari X III 3.5x10 on it. I has really shown a liking to R22 and 160gr Abonds. It think it is hard to beat the Vanguards for the amount of rifle you get and guarantee of accuracy.

Both of my friends bought the same rifle as mine, but they got a 300 WBY and a 270WIN. We loaded some 130gr TTSX for my buddies 270 with H4831 and he was shooting under an inch with very little trouble, out of a brand new rifle. My buddy with the 300 WBY hasn't tried his yet, because he just deployed, but I would guess it would be an accurate rifle also. Hard to be a really accurate rifle, and a great scope for 800.00 being such a great shooter. Check them out, They kind of made me a believer in the inexpensive Vanguards. Scotty
