Ruger got something really right on the .243. The twist rate on this is 1:7.7'' That has to have been done to stabilize the darlings of the .243 tactical crowd. The 105g AMAX and the 115g DTAC need faster twist rates to stabilize.

The 105 Amax and BTHP from Hornady stabilize just fine in current factory twist barrels from Remington and Savage since they both use the 9.25. However 105 VLD's will benefit from the fast twist, and depending on elevation the 115 DTAC bullets will probably work as well once you're a couple thousand feed ASL.

I'm not sure I'd agree with that as a blanket statement. The 105s are borderline in 1:9.25 and you only get them stable if you push them really really hard.. I did a ton of research when my results were marginal with the 105s and it seems sort of luck of the drop whether you can get them stable at normal velocities. Some folks have had luck, others not so much. I ended up sticking with the 95g SHPBTs as they shot a lot better without burning up the barrel and pushing max pressure.

I hear most folks having luck with the .243AI and the 105g, because they can push it hard enough to get it stable.
