I picked a used but brand new Savage 110 in 7mm Rem Mag for $300.00 the other day. I'm going to make this a project rifle since I'm going to let my son use my Tikka 3006 with redused loads next year.

Slowly as funds allow, I'm going to restock it with a Stockade gun stock, one of there recoil lugs (when I rebarrel, way down the road) and put a nice trigger on it. I'm rather excited to have it to work on, and I felt I got a great deal on a great rifle.

Now I just need dies, bullets, and a scope mount. I need a second job just to pay for hobbies.

I believe you will appreciate the Savage. The cartridge is an excellent all around cartridge. Best of luck as you work up the loads and prepare the rifle as you want it.

Thanks guys. Is so happens that I Have quite a bit of RL22 that my new 3006 does not like that hopefully the savage will. Pop, where those velocities with a 24 inch tube? Primer? thanks for the information too. I'm excited to get going on it.

Load up my magic load and enjoy!

63-66 gr RL22 160 AccuBond. 3000-3100 fps.

Hmmmm! POP, mirrors a load I have used with the 160 grain CT FS. 66 grains of RL22 for 3164 +/-5 and sub MOA. 64 grains tightens the group to 0.25 inches with the loss of only 100 fps. I still have about 100 rounds of that load available to use.

Corey,

That is in a 24 inch pipe.

Corey,

Just checking my notes I notice that I also have a hunting load with 175 grain PT and 61.5 grains RL22 for 2810 fps and sub-MOA. I haven't used it, but I have quite a few loaded and ready to go at some point in the future.

Dr. Mike, Pop, thanks you guys have me very excited to get started loading for my new rifle. My one I had before was a poor performer, but I was not pushing anything either.

Corey

Generally, the 7mm RM enjoys full-throttle loads. It has been my experience with this cartridge that as you approach maximum pressures the groups tighten noticeably.

That is good to know, I light fast and accurate. I have high hopes for this rifle. I have loaded for one past Savage and a friends Stevens and the guns just plain shoot well.

I'm sure I will be hitting you guys up for more informaiton soon. Thanks a bunch, you made my day.

Corey

That is my old standby load with fed 215 or 215m. Usually 3050 fps in a 24" barrel.

I worked up to POP's load of 66gr of RL22 with a 160gr AccuBond with CCI250 Primers and got 3085FPS out of my 24" Barreled WBY Vanguard. Plus, it was shooting at about an inch at 200 yards. Overall, that is my go to load when I use the 7mm Rem Mag. My old load that I send to my buddy in Idaho is 80gr of H870 with the 160gr Speer Mag Tip. He has been using it to shoot wolves, coyotes, elk and deer for awhile. It is a great game load. RL22 is an awesome powder for the 7mm Rem Mag though. Scotty

I can live with that kind of velocity and accuracy. I hope I can get there. I need a few more things before I can even shoot the rifle though.

Corey

I would be surprised if your rifle didn't shoot that load well. It seemed like my rifle clicked once I started pushing it a little. You are going to have fun with that rifle. It will do just about everything well. Scotty

Hi C.smith, I think that you picked up a real good deal as I call it a working mans rifle and a great caliber.
A load that you might want to try is 160gr. ABs over top of 60grs of IMR4350 it is out of the Nosler book and it is between 2900 & 3000 fps (no signs of pressure).
I have loaded them for 2 different rifles and they have performed sub 1" at 200yards with a ledsled. There is one difference as both rifles have 26" tubes.

Blessings,
Dan

Cool thanks, I might try that too if RL 22 does not work out for me.
