New to Reloading

Hand loading is a disease for which there is no cure, except to do it. It is addictive, and extremely gratifying. Congratulations, Rem. You done good.

I currently load my brother's 06 with 56.5 H4350 & 165 @#%&$ bullets. He's thinks AB's are too expensive  (which they are not). The AB would be a great choice. I also use a Fed. 215 mag primer because up here the temps. can get well below freezing during our seasons :(
Enjoy your 06 & have fun playing with it

Sounds like you have a winning combo. I would not worry too much about using that 165 grain for elk and deer both. Thats what I do, so there is not sighing in between. My 0.02.

As with anything in life, you get what you pay for. Will less stoutly constructed bullets do the job? Yes. However, when the shot is less than optimal or when just a little insurance is needed, the cost of the bullet is the last thing you want to think about. Tracking a wounded animal because you saved a few dollars is not the bargain some people might imagine. Passing up a shot on a really quality animal because you are uncertain of the performance of your bullet may not be the bargain you imagined. Again, just my two cents.
