New Toys

Jake, Both of those Model 70's are in great shape, especially the blued one. I don't think that I would change them. I would hang onto the blued .30-06 it is too nice to mess with.

Thanks Charlie. That blued one is rougher than the pictures appear floor plate is rubbed down to the white crown is white and the action and barrel has some wear spots. It's gonna stay that way for a while it was too good of deal to pass up.

Nice hardware! My 250 was originally "in the white " in its walnut stock. Every time I see a stainless Winchester in a Walnut stock I wish I wouldn't have had it blued. Nice stuff. CL

They're always underestimating you, Scotty. Thirty-five my foot! Go big or go home. (y)

Yes sir! It's just started to get crazy around this place.

I'm very excited for Jakes 9.3x62 though. Just a cool cat. I'm really heavy in that middle bore range but I'd have to fight myself not to do the same as Jake is if I came across the right rifle.

No no no Mike we have to get him a proper 35 Whelen. One on a M70 action!!

Good point, Jake. Mind is turning to applesauce in my dotage.

Jake you realize how infected with that RADD you have. I'm not sure the doctor can help!

I'm not infected David. I don't have a problem until I admit it!! On the other hand these are investments. They hold there value and can't disappear like money in the bank and they will hold there value or go up.

Besides for a price I can get that blued one turned into a 35 Whelen and I'll personally deliver it!

Oh and the good doctor did help he helped me decide on some glass.

The 9.3x62 overshadows the .35 Whelen with heavier bullets and more energy. Pushing a 286 gr, .366 dia. bullet at nearly 2500 fps and 4000 fp's is nothing to pass on. This is very close to .375 H&H performance?

Good Scott I'm glad im not the only one. Can't wait to see your porn!!!!

That's the plan the NEGC front band sight with a Brockman set of Talleys and QR rings the barrel is .605" ar the muzzle and the closest thing they make is a .610" or a .590". I'll call them tomorrow and get details. I think I'll use the stock it has on it for now and change it out to a Supergrade later or maybe a Micky depending on what the recoil is like if it's manageable for me going the Supergrade route if not a sniper fill Mickey will be the ticket.

Yes Fotis you brought this 9.3 craze on when I bought those .338 bullets from you. There was a ultra cool .375 260 AB in there and I knew I NEEDED something bigger!!!!

Finally made it to town to pick them all up Vince.

Jake,
You're building my vision of a 35 Whelen! Was our conversation an idea germinator or do great minds think alike? Don't worry about that front band; a good smith will heat that up on a mandrel and expand it. Then either solder or epoxy it on the barrel. I'd prefer the soldering. I watched one smith put one on hot and let it shrink/cool onto the barrel and then solder it. It wasn't going anywhere!
My version is going to start with a M70 Super Grade in 30-06 that I already have. Rebore to .35 then I'll add the same bases and front sight do some polishing then reblue. Mine will be the darker brother to yours! Can't wait to see your 9.3 done up. It's gonna be all business. You should consider two stocks for it; A supergrade is a fine idea and Mickey for going north.

G'Day Fella's,

NV Broncrider, looks real good and that 9.3 sounds like it will be a very nice setup!

Doh!

I’m looking forward to seeing how that 9.3x62 turns out. I’m betting it will be amazing. There is nothing better looking than a stainless M70 with good wood. I’m particularly fond of wood featherweight stocks and stainless rifles.

Well it will be back in my hands next week. Needs a test fire then packed in a box and on a brown truck.
