New world record mountain goat.

That is a great goat. I'm surprised that the 270 was sufficient to bag it. Everyone knows you need more mass and higher velocities to kill goat.

I guess I'm going to be careful opening the freezer next time so the one I shot with my 260 doesn't jump out

David, I knew you would like that, now where is Guy :)

Mt Goats are on the short list to hunt for me. Right up there with Brown Bear.... What a tank!

SJB358 ++++1. The brown bear and Goat are what I want the most. I want to shoot a goat so bad.

Incidentally, if some one is looking for a good read, Addicted to Altitude by Mark Hampton is a great collection of short stories about handgun hunting around the world for various goats, etc.

What a beautiful animal! Lucky Man to have such an opportunity, let alone tag a goat like that! CL

I love to hunt goats and hope to be able to chase them for as long as I'm physically able. When you see a big billy it is quite a sight, they are powerfully built and as tough as nails. He looks even more impressive when he starts getting his winter coat, sheep hunting is o.k. but it's not goat hunting :)

It's neat to see others want to hunt for goats, it is quite an adventure in beautiful, tough country. I do have to warn you though it will probably be the hardest thing you have ever done so you will either love it and can't wait to do it again or once will be enough :) It is a given that we hunt for goats every year but we have them living just a few miles from the house along with tons of bears so that's what we hunt here :)

Maybe on day you can convince your family to move here

Monster-billy!
Leave it to a Kentucky boy to get the windage right on that .270 and goats will fall every time.

Gerry,

I have to travel a little farther to see the goats, but within an hour and a half, I can watch them. I've reached the magical age that makes climbing a little harder, but I still enjoy working my way up the mountain. Bears? Now, that's another story. I'm addicted.

What a beautiful animal, I have never had a desire to hunt them but I think that could change quite quickly. But unfortunately I am of that age that it could be quite a chore
And who of thunk it a 270win  he did Sir Jack proud

Blessings,
Dan

Yeah - I can find them when I'm up in the Cascades backpacking or hunting high-country mule deer - but I doubt I'll ever draw the once-in-a-lifetime tag to hunt them.

Thinking about a new SLR camera with a good telephoto lens, and just "hunting" them that way... No limit on the amount of photos a guy can take, and it's a lot easier packing a camera back out to the trailhead instead of a big ol' dead goat!
