several years ago I aquired one of the last charled daily mini mauser LH actions after they discontinued the rifles, 3 years ago I sent the action, a hart 12 twist 26" #5 1/2
contour barrel to kevin kram of montour county rifles, at the same time I had a blank cut from a walnut tree I climbed as a kid which I sent to joel russo for an A3-5 stock, I recieved the rifle the first of march of '11, I had put a hold on joel finishing the stockwork when my daughter got sick and when I gave the go-ahead for the completion he was swamped, well I mounted a loopy 4x12 target and got it sighted in, hope to be able to find time to work with it this summer, here it is, first group running 35 gr bergers and benchmark went 5/8"

That is very nice! I bet you were like a kid on Christmas when that thing arrived! Hope your daughters issues are all taken care of and she is doing well!

its a 223, necked to 20 and given a 30 degree shoulder, almost as fast as a 204 with better brass, or cheaper brass whichever route ya wanna take.

Most impressive. Uncommon cartridges certainly have an appeal to many of us.

Rifle looks awesome RR! Man, that Walnut is excellent. Can't beat nice wood on a rifle, and the tactical configuration is very nice. Can't wait to see some targets from this one. Scotty

when I started this build I wasn't sure what to go with, wanted a fast twist 223 AI, but the mag box wasn't quite long enough to run 75 a-max's without using alot of powder room for bullet storage, almost went with a 204 till I saw lapua offered 20 tac cases, no fireforming so I was swayed by the availability of good brass.
Hopefully I'll get some time to work with it before the fall season, wanna try the 39 gr blitz-kings but from all I've read a 40 gr v-max is iffy in a 12 twist. will keep ya posted on the results.

That must be what drives some folks to that .243 Winchester Dr. Mike, that's the only thing I can figure!

Those little pesky 243's are sure a little uncommon. Although they are pretty sweet! Scotty

David -
That "little" .243 I just bought and gave away for a graduation present is shooting 70 grain BT's over 3600 fps :p. Just got back a bit ago from taking the young man out for his first range session with it, and the smile on his face was almost as good as your son's when he got the b-day present! Even though I prefer the 6mm cartridge to the .243, I doubt there is too much drop-off in performance for the applications it will be used for.

Sometimes going back to the common calibers isn't all bad. Now where is that darn 6.5 WSM of mine  ?
