I have been asked what other hunts we have planned.

At this time, the only thing we are actively planning is another cross country ski hunt in Sweden for Capercaillie.
and if time permitted, black grouse .

This trip is being organized by one of our daughters. she loves to ski and she loves to hunt. She has said she wants us to go with them before we are too old to ski---she is not presently working in the diplomatic corps.

I am of Swedish decent and after we hunt there we have always tried to find long lost relatives. this is getting harder to do now that my grandparents are gone as they were the last ones to actually live in Sweden.

One of the first loads I worked up when I began this little sideline was for a 260 Rem. It was shooting a Norma FMJ and the owner was heading to Sweden for Capercaillie. He was quite satisfied with the work and apparently did well on his hunt. That would be an interesting hunt, Aleena. Enjoy.

Very cool A. Sounds like a neat hunt.

I would imagine your daughter won't get her diplomacy genes from her mama though! 8)

Very Nice A!

My first job after making the jump to Corporate was with Volvo Cars of North America. What a great company to work for! I have found the Swedes in general are by far the nicest, most genuine people I have ever met. We used to employ 24 college age young men and women to work the crowd during the North American International Auto Shows and they were wonderfull.

A, I must be honest I had never heard of that bird. I didn't even know it was a bird until I looked it up. That sounds like a really great family hunting trip, if you know how to cross country ski, which I don't.

I do need to tell you that I am in agreement with Scotty, perhaps your daughter learned everything she knows about diplomacy from her mother lol

Thank you Dr Mike

John and Scotty. your evaluation does not stem from the fact that my favorite saying when all else fails, ends with "and the horse you rode in on" does it ? but you guys are right, I have no idea how many times I have heard Jerry say " be quiet, I will handle this"

Pat, thank you for the kind words about the Swedish people. BTW, Pat, one of our daughters thought the picture of your little girl reading the book, was the "coolest thing ever"--her words

That does sound like a fun hunt. I can't ski worth nothing and was ok with a snowboard. Almost "Sonny Bonoed" last time on Skis and broke my tailbone the last time on a snowboard. I will agree that the Swedes are some of the nicest people you can meet.

John,

both are used. shotguns are usually used in the early season and with dogs. Rifles more in late season when your on ski or snowshoes. There will be 6 in our family and four of us will have small caliber rifles and two will have combo guns. one is a 22 hornet over 12 gauge and the other is a 222 Rem over 12 gauge

Woodycreek ---Thank you for the post and pm, much appreciated.

This trip you are planning sounds like it will be a real adventure :) hope that you and your family have a great time.
Please remember that it would be great to have lots of photos with your story
Have fun, be safe and shoot straight!

Blessings,
Dan

Wow! What a wonderful trip. I can't wait till my four children are old enough to take family outings like yours. Then again, I am enjoying them as youngsters. Just last weekend, my wife and I were at the SCI convention in Reno at one of the dinner auctions. A hunting trip for six was auctioned. My wife and I discussed how much fun it would be in future years for all six of us to go on a hunt.

A,

That sounds like a great hunt.
When the Capercaillie fan out, they look like a miniature turkey.
What is the table fair like?

thank you very much gentlemen for the best wishes

Jim, not to bad. But our family likes different types of food--rattlesnake, rocky mountain oysters, frog legs, kangaroo, and a variety of African fare, that many people from the States will not eat.
like everything else, it depends on how it is prepared. Cheyenne has a secret recipe for a stew that has small cuts of bear, moose, and caribou in it that is just awesome, so as you know, most of it is how it is prepared.

Runtohunt. I hope you and your wife have many many outing s with your children. As much as we enjoyed them as children, we seem to have more fun now that they are adults and can care for themselves and us lol

A this would be something we would like to do. i showed this thread to the family last night and we are going to try to do this, as a family. I am asking for more info via pm, thank you

Very cool, Aleena!

Kinda like when one of my kids gives her mother a smart-alecky, sarcastic reply and I get "the look," I imagine your daughter, as they say "comes by her diplomacy honestly."

;)

Hope you all have a great time! Sounds like a super cool hunt!

Hey, you all ever get tired or bored of your hunts, just give me the tags, plane tickets, I will take my own guns and I will sit in for you all. Really no trouble at all, more than glad to be of any help I can so you all can take a break from those great hunts. I will take all the the pictures I can so you will feel like you were there.

Look, I am already starting to prepare

I worked part time, in Helsingborg for about three years. I headed a joint project between Helsingborg, Sweden and Haryana, India to transfer technology to India from Sweden. The Swedish people were very cordial and went out of their way to make me feel comfortable working with them. They also were most affable to work with and their project people even travelled in India with me to see the sights during the project.

Aleena, that should be a fun trip. I never had an opportunity to hunt in Scandanavia but Sweden is a beautiful country and I have fond memories of working there.
