Nice coyote with 264

OH hurt me!

Seems like it would be a blast just to hunt coyotes out there in the wide open for a week! Scotty

I have been using the 100 grain TTSX and 110 Accubonds in my .25-.284 for coyotes and deer/antelope. Great accuracy with both and you can knock things over way out there. The thing I like about this particular rifle is it is one of the few where I pull the trigger and see the animal drop in the scope without loosing site due to recoil. Which is kind of neat.

Good job on the coyote. Always fun and a good cure for cabin fever in the winter................although it gets to be tough sloggin when the snow is deep, not that you need to worry about that too much in Hermiston. My wife and I use to take a lot of the QH and Paint colts we raised to the auction there, back when horses were worth something.

Makwa, you can't tell us about your rifle without showing some pictures! That sounds like a shooter. 25-284 is one of the cooler cartridges out there! Scotty

+1
That is a wildcat that has intrigued me for a while.

You guys will probably be disappointed as it is built on an FN mauser action and has a wood stock. LOL I know hard to believe, must be my age. Heavy Douglas barrel. Leupold 4.5-14 LR scope.

Will post some pics later as I have to go out and plow. It finally stopped snowing and the drifts over near the calf pen are up over my knees. :)

Makwa,

I like the warmth of wood, even though I recognise the practicality of tupperware.

Well here is the .25-.284. As I mentioned it is an FN (Belgian) mauser action with a 26 inch Douglas Premium heavy contour barrel and Timney trigger. Decent piece of wood, but you can't really tell from the pictures. The Leupold scope is mounted in Warne QD rings as I have a second scope with an illuminating reticle for smoking coyotes in poor light during the winter when they come in to harass livestock. The rifle is a tack driver and will keep 5 in a group the size of a dime. The antelope is a buck I killed this year. Nothing special, just a speed goat, but a took him in the neck at 336 yards. I am not a big fan of neck shots but I did not want to drill him through a front shoulder as he was standing quartering towards me. I have a fair amount of confidence in what I can do with this rifle.

Wow, that is a sweet set up and the 26" tube must get them little bullets zinging. It looks like great wood from the pictures. What Leupold is that on the rifle. It looks perfect! Scotty

Sweet rifle, Makwa. Thanks for sharing. It is an interesting cartridge, to be certain. What are your loads with the AB and TTSX. QuickLOAD projects just a smidgen under 3400 fps with the 110 grain AB and either N560, Magnum, IMR 7828 or RL25. That would be humming.

Scotty the scope is a Leupold 4.4-14 with the 30mm tube, LR model. Dr. Mike your projections from QuickLoad are bang on. I get just under 3400 with 7828 and RL19.

WOW, that is scooting for sure!

Makwa, that is the exact scope I would like to put on my 25-06! I love the looks of it and it has all the useable range that would work for this rifle I think! Scotty

I agree..............I find this scope to be just about perfect. Has enough magnification for poking coyotes at 400+, but not too high on the bottom end. Glad you like the pea shooter.

Dr. Mike my wife and I each have one rifle with a plastic handle.......they are the ones we use for backup rifles when we are guiding and for beating around under tough conditions. They sure are the ticket for some things. I still like a wood stock though ................... has a lot to do with age/generation I think. I know lots of young guys that I have guided who have never owned a rifle with a wood stock.

But I seem to have hijacked the coyote thread. Sorry about that.

My wife and I are killing a steer next week and hanging the quarters in our cooler for a couple of weeks for the neighbor. I think a few coyotes are going to go "Over the Rainbow Bridge" when they come in to feed on the gut pile. Hides should be super nice now.

Nice, can't wait to see some pictures. 110gr AB's at nearly 3400 is some serious medicine. Scotty
