I just ordered my first true varmint rilfe - savage 12 LFV (tupperware stock) in a 22-250. It has a 12 twist. I liked the idea of being able to swap barrels and cartidges in the futer and it was 300 cheaper than the Low profile that I really wanted. I want to be able to push this rig to the limit of it's range 500 + yards eventually. What do you reccomend for the best bullet for this rifle. I'm thinking the 55 g bt. Will I be able to stableize it or anything heavier? Just wanted to ask the experts.
I'm giddy like a little schoolboy.. He he he he! :)
Thanks, mark

Congratulations on your new rifle.
1:12 twist will stabilize the 60 gr bullets with no problem.
You are going to want heavier bullets for the longer ranges.
Take a look at the 60 gr BT, should work nicely for you in your 22-250.

I agree with the last post. I have a Win Model 70 XTR, which unfortunately only has a 1-14 twist. It will stabilize up to 63gr projectiles, so your 1-12 won't have a problem. I'd go with the 55gr BT's as you'll get that little bit more velocity for those long distance shot. Just happens to be the most accurate projectile through my gun as well, then every gun is different, so play around and see how you go.

+1 with JD's comment.

I use 55gn Bullets out of my 22-250 with great success. If you looking beyond that 500yd mark however the retained energy of the 60gn bullet might work better...??
That's part of the fun....a box of 55gners in one hand, a box of 60's in the other and a fulls days worth of entertainment...

Savages are tackdrivers! All I have (save my WBY 416) are savages. When I had mt 22-250 55 NBT's were my faves. My buddy used 40 gr bt with varget at 4100 fps or so.
