Hi - Have any of you guys compared accuracy and velocity with the NOSLER E TIP vs the HORNADY GMX bullets ? :?: Also any one hunted and shot any game with either or :?:
Eg - 30 cal 180 gr :!:

One shoots well in one rifle for me, and the other shoots better in another rifle. Frankly, either shoot very well for me. I've taken elk and moose with the 130 grain E-Tip from my 270 WSM. Several reports have been posted on the forum.

I find it hard to believe Dr Mike that no else has commented on nosler vs horn bullets - i thought there would be a ton of opinons by know- oh well may wonders never cease ! Cheers Jim :)

I used the 139 gr gmx in my 7mm RM 2 years ago to shoot my biggest wt to date. They shot really good out of my rifle I dropped him at around 400 yards or so , like most mono metal bullets thief expansion and penetration vary greatly on mv and distance I recovered 2 bullets one from my buck and one from a doe. I was surprised to have recovered any. I used my 300 win and went back to accu- bonds this year wound up with tag soup. Haven't used theE- tip yet at all , and have had some luck with the tsx and ttsx but did find I needed to be on top of copper build up with them. An aquaintance shot his moose this year with a ttsx in a 300 wm , all I can say is what a mess. Frontal shot from stem to stern and all the grocery's in between.

I ca tell you that my 30-378 Accumark shoots them well under MOA at 3500 fps. This is the 180 grain e-tip.

I have not used it on game yet.

As far as the hornadies; never got a chance to use them.

Not a fan of monolithic bullets, tried the TSX, GS Custom on game during a four year time period and was not impress with consistency of terminal performance, the TTSX shot well, I had trouble finding an accurate load with the E-Tip but finally found a load for one of my rifles and have not tried the Hornady. I prefer the AccuBond, Patition, Swift A-Frame and North Fork over the monolithic bullets for consistent results terminally.

I'm in with Dr. Mike, in that I've posted in multiple threads on this forum about my experience with the 130gr E-Tip in my 270Wby. I've tried them in that rifle and the 180gr in a 300Wby. I found an accurate load in the 270Wby, and have not yet (albeit in limited testing) in the 300'bee. It took some tinkering on my part in the 270Wby, as well. But, once I found an accurate load, I've been pleased. On game performance is limited to two shots on one good-sized white-tail buck. First shot was 175yds hard quartering, through the left front leg/shoulder joint and exiting just to the right of the sternum. That shot clipped the front of the left lung, and dropped the buck in his tracks. Exit wound was about the size of a half-dollar. That shot didn't finish the job just due to the steep quartering angle I had, so I ended up putting another shot through from in front of him, from 20-25yds, entering at the base of the neck, and riding down the right side of the spine, exiting about 2" to the right of where the tail meets the rump. Literally rode the entire spinal column from stem to stern. Exit wound was about the size of a half-dollar. I'm sold on the E-Tip for magnums and other rifles where MV is in excess of 3200fps. I won't be using the 180gr E-Tip in my 8x57, though. I'm pretty sure I'd get low velocity and my range would be dependent on the minimum impact velocity for the E-Tip, rather than the rifle's real capabilities, I believe. I may try them in my 243Win, though. A 90gr E-Tip at 3100-3200fps might be just the right white-tail medicine.

Had great results accuracy-wise from both the 90 gr GMX in my 257 AI & the 100 gr ETip in my 257 Weatherby. Both were sub-half-MOA, the former w/ RS-Hunter (unchrono'd) & the latter w/ RL22 @ 3575 fps.

Haven't had a chance to run 'em through game yet, unfortunately. I have no doubt that both will perform wonderfully.

I'm a HUGE Hornady fan, but Nosler makes a great bullet. One thing I did note is that w/out the driving bands the Nosler can't be pushed like the GMX or T/TSX. That having been said, it is obvious that with brilliant accuracy & 3575 fps, it won't be an issue on game.

All that having been said, there are few things I'd do with these rifles that'd necessitate the monometals over a good ole 100 gr Interlock in the Ackley and the 110 AccuBond in the latter...

I have played with the 200 gr et out of my 338wm. Shot good for that rifle, and took a mule deer buck @ 100 yards. Did the trick and not a big mess. I just like the 225 weight in that rifle better.

I took a moose about 3 weeks ago using the e-tip from a 300 wsm at about 2900 fps. Was able to get within 40 yards and a broadside shot. Complete pass through and the damage was quite impressive.

The best part is that we were able to drive the snow machine and sled right up to the moose - no packing!

I have shot and tested the 338 200 gr, 7mm 150 gr, and 257 100 gr E-Tip but have not used them on game. They seem to shoot best at .100" off th lands. Never tried the Hornady bullets. Guess I am a Nosler kind of guy.
