I'd like to see a plastic tipped version...black color perhaps?

Sure would be nice not to have deformed tips from sitting in the magazine!

PLEEEEAAASE...

I realize such a change would alter the bullets balance and hence, design... it'd be nice, however, to see the Partition slowly converted to a polymer tip starting with, say, the .308/180.

That's the ONLY way to "improve" the Partition...

Hi Brad, try the protected tips
I've been using the 308/180 protected point for years, awesome bullet, many deer a few elk and one moose didnt like it so much
never had a problem with mag deform

I've shot two six point bulls with the 180 PP's... they have a BC like a rock. I want something sleek for 50 to 550 yards.

buy a range finder and get to know your rifle. you dont need a plastic tip and a boat tail to shoot 550 yards, just practice

Boy, I love the assumption's you make... you always this abrasive?

This thread is about the changes I'd like to see for the Partition to make it better. YES, despite Holy Grail Status, the Partition could use a tweak.

YES, I own a leica 1200 and use dots in my scope. I'm familiar with how to shoot...

We pretty much do, its got a white tip and called the AB. Seriously, they penetrate and hold up just as good as a Partition, with your boat tail and high BC. Whats wrong with them?

I am with you Brad, a BT/PT would be the just the ticket for Long Range bone smashing penetration. This would be the dream bullet for long range Elk hunting.

JD, I've gotta believe you and I aren't alone. I don't care about a boat tail, I just would like a point that doesn't deform in the magazine. The .308/180 NP ends up with a lower BC than the Protected Point after sitting in the magazine a couple of shots. The AccuBond is NOT the same bullet as the Partition, good bullet it may be. I'll drive a Partition from any angle in a bull elk but wouldn't trust an AccuBond.

Brad; Nope, you and JD are NOT alone in your confidence in that venerable Partition. I have used the AccuBond, and do like what I have seen, but a Partition it isn't!! Like yourself, I have absolutely no qualms about driving a Partition into an Elk or Moose from any angle, knowing it will reach vitals without disintegrating or turning inside out. I have been one "lucky" hunter, inasmuch as I have lived in Prime game country all my life [North Central British Columbia], and have been hunting for very close to 50 years now. I started using Partitions of the old style, and while they were not as accurate as today's version, they were just as dependable in Big game. My first Elk was shot with a 180 Partition out of a 30-06, and it was the beginning of a long and dear relationship with that worthy design. I continue to judge all other bullets by the Partition, and do not see anything changing soon. BTW, I would love to see a Partition with the Polymer tip also. Regards, Eagleye.

Brad -

Have you tried the AccuBond?? I have used it on everything from badgers to elk in my .280 AI. The Ballistic Coeffient is higher than that of the partitions in the same caliber and weight. There are a few guys who frequent this page who will not touch a Barnes bullet.

Just my two cents.

Eagleye, like you I consider the Partition the "Gold Standard" of BG bullets! Great to hear your experience and also that I'm not alone in suggesting a minor "tweak."

Right now I'm stuck on the Barnes TSX but would love to come back to the Partition.

Wow, considering how well the TSX has worked for you, it must've taken a really Big Stick to get you thinkin' of anything else...

You've obviuosly never tried the TSX... an entirely different bullet than the old X.

i've come in late in this topic, but i too have had the same deformation problems. the problem is that there isn't a protected point offered in 7mm. i now have just switched to AccuBond with hopes that it will perform similar to the Partition, but as stated before, the Partition is a tried and true standard. the next problem i have is that AB isn't offered in 150 grns (.284/7mm), so years of load data and confidence are null and void. any hope of a 150 AB in 7mm NOSLER?

I havn't heard anything about a 7mm 150gr. AccuBond but they're talking about 2007 products right now so that information should be released before too long.
