This Adult Female I did not call. I was hunting the Lava Humps. Sneaking around and glassing, watching the birds and deer. Spotted a herd of deer moving left, then moved in and another herd was moving right. wind was right in my face, so I know it was not me pushing the deer. Saw a Gray jay flying out squawking. Followed its flight path back and just then the cat came out of the bitter brush, jumped on a log and walked down it. It chirped twice. As I was getting set up to shoot, it disappeared. As I was glassing to spot it. I picked it up going straight away at about 250yrds. Put the cross hair on its tail and the cat reacted by doing a 180 and running full speed right at me. At about 100yrds I hit her again and rolled her. She rolled for a few seconds. Jumped up and sprinted left to right, so I hit her again. Mud was the name of the day. I drug her .89 air miles in 2 1/2hrs. And gave out. Brought the deer sleigh plastic sled in the next morning. Found the Ravens had gotten into the gut pile and ate the female organs and liver. They had showed up just after the shot, but assumed after dragging the cat away I was safe to leave the guts. Wrong. Anyway remember your ZIP lock bag for the female organs. I forgot to put one in my pack, was told when I checked it in to expect a call from OSP. My mistake so please learn from it. I always have bags for heart and liver when deer/elk hunting. You need one for cougar and bear hunting also. just in case you kill a female. Check in went well today. Called at 12:30 into ODFW Bend office. Got a 2:30 appointment and they used my cougar as a training tool. I hit her 3 times, once in the butt, found the bullet when doing clean up in camp. Center mass spine hit, and high shoulder. Not bad shooting for a moving target, twice at full run. I'll use a better bullet next time. Cat measured 80" tip of nose to tip of tail, Live weight was about 110lb. It had an empty belly so was not as heavy as it could have been.
