Gentlemen,

I prefer my steaks medium rare. T-bones are perfectly acceptable is fillet mignon is not on the menu.

Mike, you can have your steak anyway you want buddy. I am planning to get your way soon. Your area if BC would make most men gasp for breath just seeing it from a car along the highway. My boy is feeling kinda tough these days so I'm thinking he is getting pretty ready to get into the Northern Rockies! Scotty

Brian does cook a heckuva great steak! Although, being a Marine, I'm not overly fussy! Scotty

Here is a few pics of the country you'll be hunting.

Nevermind the ugly guy messing up this pic.

Not sure why the top pic turned out so big and the bottom so small :?
I thought I had more pics of the country, but I can't find them. You guys should do well, weather permitting.

Scotty I'm not sure if the 270 WSM will be done by then, and it will be mine that she can use if she wants  . She has shot the 280 AI with 140 BTs and likes it, so I'll load up some 140 ABs and she should be fine. Plus it the 280 AI has already been trained for elk.

Well, Scotty, if I ate it BC style, I'd say to just run the elk past me and I'd take a bite. However, I was civilised by having lived so many years south of here.

Jmad I am with you on the opinion of the damned ODFW  doesn't even scratch the paint. I now have 5 preference points for elk and 6 for antlerless deer. Why give me those preference points if I never get any preference to cash them in on? I did get my buck tag like you but I guess its back to the Northeast units again for a spike just like the last 5 years. I am really thinking of writing a letter to the Director just to let him know how thrilled I am with paying 8.00 per app and racking up all of these worthless preference points each year. Its okay I probably just would've wasted my money somewhere else if not giving it to the State of Oregon right?

Somedays Montana, Idaho, and Alaska are all looking pretty good.

Thanks for the pictures Jake. Those really get me pumped! Looks pretty open out there. Should be an awesome hunt I believe.

Well, I guess that is good if you get first crack at the 270WSM. I just did a little more loading last night with it and 150gr PT's. Right now I am running about 3000 with them, wanna see if I can duplicate my 150gr BT speeds with them. I figure a little extra energy won't hurt anything. They do shoot really well though.

Brian, looks pretty good huh! Can't wait to get hunting! Scotty

I am sure we could give that a whirl as well Mike. I am always up for a challenge! You might be competing with the bears though. Wouldn't that be a sight! Scotty

254X, that's right outside my front door. There are a bunch of elk in that area, the biggest problem will be passing up all the big bulls for the spikes! Good luck!

Yes it will! Still sounds like it's going to be alot of fun.

I wouldn't want Brian to smash a bigg bull right off the bat! Might not give him enough reason to get back out West!

Man, this will be the first time I have hunted in the West and had to pass bulls up! I will have to start practicing my restraint! Scotty

Brian will be in elk heaven. He may not want to go back to VA!

That is what I told him Mike. I said by the time he is done with the elk hunt, I may have to drag him back on the plane to take him back to the Swampy Clearcut South! I know just about everytime I head West, I have to force myself into going back home. Scotty

If I could kill a nice bull the first time out??? I would move on to Cape Buff

Once you get elk in your blood you are going to turn into a savage ELK hunter. I feel it. Scotty
