Blacktail season in Oregon begins this coming Saturday. The last three years we've had snow and rain...this year it's supposed to be 78 degrees on opening day and dry as a bone. Oh for the snow!

Good luck, Set up on the clear cuts and let the other guys push them around!!!

TBASTIAN,

Best of luck in the hunt this season. Blacktail can be a challenge, to be certain.

A change in weather here in the Pacific Northwest would be most welcome by all of us hunters!

Best of luck on your blacktail hunt.

Ended up punching my tag on opening morning! Sitting was the key in the dry/hot conditions that we had. last year's opening day we had 3" of snow on the ground at 5,800 feet...this year, it reached 82 degrees.

Shot this 3X3 blacktail at about 8:20 am - 60 yard shot, as he tried to sneak around behind me. I shot him with a FN Mauser, topped with a Leupold VX2 2-7X32mm, chambered in 7X57mm Mauser, and 139 grain Hornady Interlock handloads. I was a bit bummed that I'd tagged out so early, until we spent the next three days without any other bucks taken. It was an interesting year for sure.

Congratulations on tagging out on a fine blacktail. It isn't all bad to tag out early. It gives time to advise others on what they are doing wrong.

Congrats! Don't be to bumbed out about tagging out so early. I never got a chance to even fill a tag.

Congratulations! I've learned to appreciate those bucks that get taken early in the season... Sometimes they're the only ones we see...

Nice buck. I am trying to find one for my daughter to shoot under the mentor program...we are having fun.

AC - Good luck on the Mentor Program! I noticed you were from K-Falls...We were hunting just above Ashland and staying with family in Klamath. All the best in getting her a buck!

AC, I always had good luck in that country south of 66 near the Green Springs Summit and towards Medford. I used to work out of old Weyerhaeuser camp 4 and always got deer in that area.

Thanks, we will be hitting it again tomorrow, good luck to you as well. I shot two of my biggest blacktails off Soda Mnt near Ashland, have fun.

Ya, Dad and I archery elk hunted the camp 4 and north in the Johnsons prarie area this year. He stuck a small buck but the elk had our number. I am taking my daughter to a spot around Brown mnt tomorrow. It is a good spot on a rocky knob with a creek below and a well traveled drainage through it. It is only about 1/4mi off the road but it is far enough from the zoo of road hunters that the deer are not as spooky. Hopfully some thing walk by in the am.

Good luck to all
