Partition vs Accubond

My question for all, will the Partition bullet mushroom, expand faster on Deer sized Game vs the AccuBond Bullet?

I'm basing this on my 35 Whelen shooting the 225 AccuBond traveling 2700 fps.

I noticed the couple of deer I've killed in the past had exit holes not so big after going through a few ribs but the shock power was incredible all the deer were DRT. Trust me I'm happy with the performance.

Just curious on the question posed as my gun shoots both bullets in the same place.

Thanks,
Don

Don,

I have noticed the same in several calibers and bullet weights and have drawn the conclusion that the PT is somewhat softer than the AB.
I have shot several deer with the 225 gr PT out of a 35 Whelen and there was always a lot of trauma to the vitals. I have not used the 225 gr AB on game so I can not speak directly to that.

Non-bonded; ergo, quicker expansion.

Thanks you guys, I knew I would get some good feed back.

JD,
Just the shear energy is amazing with the Whelen. I had what I call good internal damage to all the
Deer killed but think I may switch to the Partition later, after the season is over, for next year.

Thanks,
Don

Don,

I really liked the performance of the 225 gr PT in the Whelen.
I shot a buck playing peek a boo with me in a cedar swamp. I hit him head on in the chest and the bullet exited out the south end dropping him in his tracks. I was expecting a real mess when I opened him up but there wasn't much of a mess. The lungs were toast and not much blood in the intestines. Broad side shots through the slats left exit wounds the size of a quarter. I only followed 3-4 blood trails, they were very heavy and very short.

It has been a few years since I used the 225 gr Partition, I thought it was a bit less damaging than the 35 cal Accubonds. Could be wrong though, may need to load up a few Partitions again.

Here are some 35 Whelen bullets recovered from the jugs.

The 225 gr PT is an excellent choice for WT deer and Black Bear.

I would imagine that the 225 grain PT is just about ideal for any game for which one would use the 35 Whelen.

JD,
Most of my shots where I hunt are 75-125yds. I am going to load up the 225 PT as they shot in the same place as the AB last year during a range visit.

You have great performance with your load. I just think I want a little more expansion for Whitetails.

I think the beauty of the Partition is the quick expansion--combined with deep penetration. If I shoot one at a small deer, the PT will expand. If I shoot one through a bull elk, I probably won't catch it because of the penetration.

Lots of good bullets out there, but I think the Partition is still the best "all around" bullet.

I shoot a 35 WhelenAI with 225gr AB it's one of my elk rifles and been happy with that bullet. I tried Barnes,Hornady,Speer and Sierra when working up loads and store didn't have any Partition and with AB figured that was enough and after reading this post I get some Partition to try. thanks all for the posting got the wheels turning.

The 225 gr AccuBond is still one of the best, the moose in my avatar would agree......I'm going to run the 225 gr Partition this fall since it has been a long time since I used it or maybe a spring grizzly tag will appear.

Here's pulling for you to draw a grizzly tag, Gerry. Where did you put in? I'm pulling for a spring tag in my AO.

I haven't put in yet but plan on trying to draw this area, there is a massive grizzly trail that has been used for many years in there.

That is some lovely country, Gerry. Rugged and restricted, but feral and exciting. Here's to your success.

Gerry - great photo of some terrific country.

Best of luck on the tag, and on the hunt!

Guy

If you're looking for a faster expanding .35 bullet for WT's, I wouldn't hesitate to use the 225gr SGK. They run a bit cheaper than PTs and will give you everything you're looking for. I've used both the 225gr PT and SGK in a 358Win, albeit 200-250 fps slower, and see little difference in their terminal effects. I prefer the PT when taking on an elk but the larger caliber SGKs seem to be fairly stout.

Same sorta shot with the 358 Winchester and a 225 PT at 2450. AWESOME deer bullet in my opinion. It penetrated right on thru a whole deer plus, it didn't mangle meat like I thought it would. I like that 225 PT a bunch..

Saying that, I am not sure how many deer it would take to prove it is better than the AB, but both of them are some awesome bullets..

Once I get the Newton up and running a little more, I plan on pushing some bullets into jugs with the 225 AB-PT, and the 250 PT.. Time for some new bullet tests.. I think the Newton will run the 225 AB up into the 2850-2900 range pretty easily..
