I just recently picked up a Ruger M77 Tang Safety Heavy Barrel .220 Swift and was wondering if any body had a pet load or an accurate recipe for this rifle? I'd like to stick with a 50 grain Nosler BT or a 50 grain Hornady VMax. This load would mainly be for coyotes, sage rats and rock chucks. Thanks!

Try reloder 15. 1 hole shooter in my swift with 50 grain BT.

I have the same rifle and it shoots 55 bt's great with 35.5 IMR 3031 , made my longest pdoggie/harry popper/biodegradablepopup target with this load a lasered 489 yds

I used 38g of IMR-4064 w/55g NBT's. Good for 3925fps and 1/2 MOA. Killed a few coyotes out to 500 yards, DRT's with nice 2" exits. IMR-4064 is THE powder for this round. Great accuracy and top velocity in most cases.

Also used some 40g VLC with a stiff charge of H-380, good for 4550fps and 3/4" at 100 yards. That was a good one for rabbits and ground squirrels out to about 300 yards, it was the definition of red mist...

I didn't shoot 50's that much. I did try some 50g vmax/moly but I just didn't tinker with them long enough to find a decent load. I figure for coyotes the 55g is a lot better anyways, and if you want speed then go with the 40g, however its not very good on the dogs.

Got rid of my swift a couple years back, it was a ruger target w/26" heavy barrel and laminated stock. Very accurate rifle's in my experience. I killed quite a few yotes with it and I rarely missed them with the swift. I just didn't like the fact that it was hard on brass and barrel life isn't all that great. As much I like to shoot, it would be a rebarrel every other year.

Well congrats on the rifle and hope it shoots for ya!!
