After finding out about the new FN Model 70s will soon be assembled overseas, I went out and bought me a coyote light chambered in 22-250 rem. I've been wanting one of these for a while now ever since I sold my classic model 70 push feed coyote 22-250 to my cousin. The fit & finish is really nice on this rifle. I don't care for the vented B&C stock at all, so I swapped it out last night for a B&C EW stock that I had laying around. The barrel contour is a hair bigger on the coyote light models when compared to the EW model 70s. I'm going to take the barreled action out of the stock tonight and give it a little sanding and give it a nice float. The factory bedding looks good on both of the stocks, but the rifle feels way better and lighter with the EW stock on it.

I got some Talley's on order and will put those on this week hopefully and get my Leupold 3.5-10 w/turrets mounted as well. Hope to be shooting it this Saturday and take it out hunting for predators on Sunday for the first time this winter. Starting to see more and more coyotes around here every year now. Would love to kill a wolf or 3 as well, but we'll see.

They are nice. I just looked over several of the Coyote Light Model 70s when looking for a donor action.

Sounds like a great rig, the EW stock will be much better for sure. Hopefully you will post up a picture soon with it's first coyote laying beside it.

What twist is it?

Yes, I bet it'll be a great rifle.

Uhhh...maybe I don't read enough anymore. What's this about Model 70 production going overseas??

Browning..errr....FN....Winchester is planning on moving their assembly line to Portugal. Manufacture components in S.C. and then assemble the M70s overseas. :x

Sounds like a sweet varmint/pred gun AK. Rare to find a 22-250 that won't shoot and I'm certain yours will make you very happy. As would a few wolf pelts!

Do you have a link on this. I find older articles dated 2006 when the New Haven plant closed, but not recent items.

The Winchester firearms site carries this note [http://www.winchesterguns.com/customerservice/qna/detail.asp?id=287]:

Today's Model 70 bolt action rifles are made at our factory in South Carolina, U.S.A. The Model 70 factory is part of the same state-of-the-art manufacturing complex where the rifles and machine guns used by America's Armed Forces around the world are built. They are made to the exact ISO 9001 standards of quality that the U.S. Government insists upon for military firearms. Previous production was at the New Haven, Connecticut factory. That factory closed in 2006.

The Super X3 Autoloading Shotgun is made in Belgium with some assembly in Portugal. The Super X Pump Action Shotgun is manufactured in Istanbul, Turkey. The Model 94s are made in Kochi, Japan. And the Model 85, Model 92 and Model 95 are all made in Japan.

Twist is 1:14, the only thing I don't like about the rifle. I'm hoping the rifle likes 40gr NBT bullets as I've been stocking up on them before I even got the Winchester. I think these will work just fine for the range and hunting.

It's a whole 'nother rifle with this new stock. Time to go sand the barrel channel some and get it free floated.

The only rifles that I can find record of that are being assembled in Portugal are the Super X line of semi automatics. There is nothing on Facebook about the Winchester rifles moving from SC to Portugal. The automated rifle plant in SC just opened about 5 yeas ago and cost a lot of money to automate. Does not make sense and I can't find any back up to this story.
