So I made a trip to Boise, ID this weekend to pick up my new 7-300 win mag.

I was even able to have chance to shoot few loads thru her sunday morning.

2nd load went 3/8" at 3175fps with 75.5g H1000 and 162 AMAX. Nosler cases neck turned, CCI 250s. 28" Bartlein.

3rd load at 76g did 1/2" at 3215fps.

Rifle turned out great, and should do everything I ask of it and then some.

Sounds as if you have a winner. Congratulations. That is an interesting cartridge. When you get a chance, you will have to post a picture of three so we can all dream.

Sweet cartridge! What's the OAL on the cartridge. I've been thinking of doing one with AI or Accurate mags.

OAL is 3.6" and just touches the lands...plenty of room in the mag box to chase the lands

Ill get few pics up tonight. Was a long weekend and Im at work now.

should note that I can probly hit 3275fps with H1000 at 77g or so as 76 is just barely starting to show ejector marks.

May play with retumbo or RL33 and see if 3300fps is obtainable.

right now as it sits however, I gained 300fps over my 26" 7 RM so im a happy camper. 3175fps and 3/8" and great brass life will be nothing to complain about.

That sounds pretty darn nice. You should be very pleased to have it group like that without hardly even trying! Awesome.

Congrats! How long did the build take Jorey?

That is a very interesting build :) I am sure looking forward to a full range report with photos!!
Thank you for posting.

Blessings,
Dan

Congratulations Jorey on a very nice rig.
Those speeds are smokin' buddy. Talk about a flat liner!

Nathan did the build in couple weeks id say once he had all my parts, if not sooner. Very fast turn around time and does great work as well.

Was big part of why I went with him, plus he has a lot of experience with the 7-300s as well as the reamer.

Hope to run it out to 1400 in the morning and get a decent chart started so Ill have more pics and info coming shortly...wind permitting.

Rifle weighs around 13.5# all done up. Not to bad really. I like heavier rifles anyway :)

It kicks less then my 25-06, Id say around a 243 more or less with little to no muzzle flip.

That's an enviable group, for sure, Jorey. Good looking rifle, as well. You're doing something right.

Made it out this morning but it wasn't the greatest conditions. Winds blowing 20 mph and some pretty good mirage. I taped 100 yard target up and cleaned the barrel. 1st shot was about 1" low and right at 3144fps. Strelok figured about 2.75" high at 100 to be dead on at 300 so I made a little circle for POI. Made corrections on the Leupold and let 5 more go for a group and crono check. Not greatest 5 shot group but considering conditions and I havent even begun to tweak the load any yet. Velocity went 3137, 3144, 3167, 3144, and 3159 for average of 3150fps.

I then decided to try my luck and dialed 17.75 MOA for the 965 yard gong and 7 MOA for wind which I thought was around 20 MPH at 1/2 value. Snuggled in behind the A5 and Leupold cranked up to 20x and squeezed the 1.5# only to see a dust cloud about 1.5 ft low and about 2 ft left. Definately put on to much wind and needed to add another few elevation clicks. So I then dialed 19 MOA elevation and 5 MOA for wind and another miss. This however was perfect elevation wise and just missed the left edge of the plate. I took another 2 MOA off for wind, which now put me at 3 MOA. Slowly squeezed the trigger and was watching and waiting to see or hear that sweet sound of steel, and she finally rang!! 9 o'clock top impact. Decided to take another .5 MOA off for wind and shot 3 more. 2nd hit was 6 o'clcok bottom impact. 3rd hit was right underneath the 1st at 9 o'clock. 4th hit was right above the 2nd and was on the 4 o'clock edge of the bull. Spotting my own shots with this is a breeze, so nice.

I decided to call it quits and save some ammo and wait for a better day to do anymore shooting. Still had a blast even though the wind was just ridiculous. Cant wait to get out there on a no wind day and see what we can do with it.

That's it! You've convinced me! It's on the top of the list once my two slowly progressing builds are finished

Very convincing results, Jorey. Good report. That'll stimulate the desire of a few gun cranks.

Looks like Hornady finally took the 7mm AMAX off the suspended list so they should be back in production soon I would think.

Plan is to sight in and use the 162 AMAX for long range, and then Ill work up a 160 NP load for the timber or where I know a closer shot will occur. The difference in impact between the 2 bullets out to couple hundred yards will be negligible considering 8-10" killzone at the minimum on deer size game.

Very nice Jorey! I know you have been wanting a rifle like this for a long time. Seems like it is doing everything you want done and it is doing it really well! Way to go buddy!

Rifle looks great. Great shooting.
