love to see bullets, entrance, exits, weights and any other kill data with the 260 rem

No pictures but I have killed 6 deer, 5 pass throughs from 50-100yds with my 260, the one that did not exit was about a 8-10yd shot with the 140 Sierra GK. I have killed 8-10 coyotes from 50-300+yds, and lots of crows out to 200yds. The coyotes and crows all resulted in pass throughs. :)

I don't have any pictures either that I can easily get at but I have taken more than 10 blacktails, 1 mountain goat with the 260`s I have owned. Mostly used Speer 140 gr G.S. bullets and Remington 120 gr CL bullets on the deer and 140 gr Partitions on the goat. Other hunters have used my gun on black bears using the same Speer load and also some 129 gr Hornadys. All bullets went through the animals and killed them all quickly and cleanly. A few more animals have been taken with a 6.5x55 at similar speeds with the same excellent results. The 260 is a very good cartridge and I really like it. Good luck with yours.

what bullets besides sierra gk? size exits? distance traveled after impact?

trying to decide between the AccuBond (130 or 140), TTSX (100 or 120), and VLD (130 or 140) :?: :?: :| ....

I have used 140 Core-Lokts, 140 Partitions, and 120 Ballistic Tips. No deer with the NBT's, but the others left golf ball sized exits, great blood trails, no deer went over 50yds with any load used.

The AB's and the TTSX's look good, the TTSX's are next on my list to try.

I've taken a few head of game with the .260 in both rifle and pistol format, and I've taken dozens of animals with the ballistically-equivalent 6.5x55 and many, many more with a 26" 6.5x30-30 AI (aka 6.5 Bullberry IMP), which is 250 fps or so behind the .260's top loads.

The proliferation of good bullets for moderate-capacity 6.5s is a large part of the appeal of this bore diameter. Recovering one is a rarity as thye almost always exit. I love the 120 grain Ballistic Tip but have had nice results with the 125 grain Partition, the 130 grain AccuBond, the 129 grain Hornady SP and 140 grain Sierra GameKing among others.

Here's a blood trail from a medium-sized hog hit with the 130 grain AccuBond. Suffice to say, it was a short tracking job...

Here's an exit on a lung-shot hog using the 130 grain AB:

Bobby,

You've done well with that setup. Great pictures. Thanks for posting.

Bobby -
Great pictures of your hunts! One of the toughest critters out there is hogs, and your pictures really show what the various 6.5's you have hunted with are capable of.

Bobby,

Welcome to the forum, glad to have you here.
Excellent pictures and details of your hunts and bullet performance. Thank you for sharing with us.

Thanks!- that's one of the most extensive field reports of various 6.5s I've seen. I've seen a couple of one-offs but never an extended use like that.

In all the photos of recovered bullets the bullet performance looked perfect.

Here's a few. Only have one bullet recovery though. These are all 2010 season pics but My daughters and I have taken quite a few deer with the 260. 6 or 7 I suppose.

This years loads were all with 130 grn AccuBond at 2800 fps.

The recovered bullet was actually a pass through but it lodged in a cut bank on the far side. It was from my muley doe. Hard quartering away at 244 yards. Prfect heart shot just turned the heart inside out. I didn't take a pic of her though. The bullet performed perfectly.

I didn't take any wound pics. Nothing real spectacular to look at, just holes. LOL. The thing I like about the AccuBond is that they don't wreck a bunch of meat. But the organ destruction is good and the hold enough weight to pass through. With the AB you still get some bloodshot but I have yet to see one explode on a shoulder or leg like the B-tip can do.

Gutpile,

Those are some fine animals you and your daughters have taken. Congratulations. I hope to tag a couple of head of game with the 260 this spring and/or fall.

Thanks for the kind words. I dug up a few more 6.5 pictures.

Below is the 129 grain Hornady taken from a buck I took in 2009 with the 6.5 BB IMP. I shot the buck from 195 yards and placed the bullet, which had a muzzle velocity of 2626 fps, in his rut-swollen neck, dropping him instantly. The bullet entered the front of the neck, destroyed the vertebrae/spine and lodged against the hide.

Please note the photo below has a typo in it. The MV is 2501 fps and not 2601.

This cull buck was taken at 223 yards using a 125 grain Partition at app. 2700 fps MV. The tight-behind-the-shoulder shot wrecked the vitals and dropped the deer on the spot.

This hog was taken with the 6.5 BB IMP using the Sierra 140 grain GameKing at app. 2501 fps. The range was 225 yards, and the bullet blasted through both shoulders, left a nickel-sized exit and dropped the hog on the spot.

Our son took his first hog using a 94 Swede 6.5x55 with a reduced load using the 129 grain Hornady @ app. 2200 fps. The shot, taken with the hog facing us and feeding from 30 yards, dropped the hog instantly after entering the juncture of the neck/shoulder and traveling downwards through the lungs. It then exited the bottom of the lower chest.

Here’s another taken with the Sierra 140 grain GameKing with a muzzle velocity of around 2500 fps. The range was app. 180 yards, and the bullet took the hog tight behind the shoulder, wrecked the lungs and exited tight behind the opposite shoulder. The hog ran 25-30 yards and dropped.

Good to see the hog population being thinned! I really appreciate the caution shown by your son in the picture of his first hog. The rifle is pointed in a safe direction. He was certainly a happy camper, and his caution demonstrates that he has been taught well.
