Guys, I need help!
I am shopping for a starter rifle for my girl friend to use deer hunting. I have it narrowed down to two choices.

Rifle#1 Remington Model 7 CDL 260 cal 20" barrel with Leupold vx1 2-7x33 scope like new in box has been fired a few times. Seller will go as low as $800.

Rifle#2 Remington model 700 mountain LSS, 7mm-08 22” barrel with Leupold vx3 2x8. Approximately 30 rounds have been fired. Seller will go as low as $800.

Which one should I purchase? Rifle #1 may be a better fit for a shorter woman or Rifle #2, which has superior optics.

Not a lot of difference between the two rifles. You are dealing with a woman. Buy the one SHE likes best. Safest course of action.

Yeah- there isn't much difference in practical application between the two....let her pick.

The advice of the "old sages" above should never be ignored :p . If you can steer her towards one though, I would go with the 7-08. Better scope and a little longer barrel.

You would be unhappy if she bought your shoes. The wise course is to let her handle each and see which she like best and which fits her best.

I would guess the lighter weight 260 Rem would be better for her but like everyone else said letting her decide would be the best.

+ ONE! What Guy said, and + ONE! What Scotty said, talk up the 7!

Help her pick the 7. The way to do that is by explaining how much of a "deal" she will get, because of the significant value of the scope. The key words with most women are, "sale", "discount" or "clearance"'these are words triggering words for most women. Remember you can always cut the stock back a touch.

The 260 Rem is every bit as good as a 7mm-08 and in theory anyway more recoil friendly don't try to sway her one way or another, she might end up picking "the pretty one" however her eyes define that. My point is as you all know, women think much different than we do :)

Thanks guys,
Some thing tells me that she would like some other kind of bling first.

I like the #7 in 260rem, BUT the seller did not pay $800 new for that rifle and scope. About $550 and $200 (new) now subtract 30% for like new condition used rig.

About $560 is top price for that used gun and scope. I would even offer $500 for just the rifle and then put a new VX2 2-7x33mm on it for $300 more. you will have add in rings/bases say $40-$60.

The Model #7 will fit her and handle better, better balance for a light framed shooter.

I would personally go with the Mountain Rifle and VX-3 Leupold scope. However, I would tell her that, backoff and let her decide what she wants.

This is what I do know about my girl friends taste in guns.
1. Dislike stainless steel in a rifle barrel.
2. Loves SxS A. H. Fox shotguns.
3. Likes European grip stock.
4. Nutmeg laminated stock is ok.
5. Likes good quality walnut stock.
6. Does not like synthetic stocks in firearms.
7. Preference for thumbhole stock in the following order of color preference Applejack, Forest camo/ Royal Jacaranda.
8. I think I need to win the lottery   :(
