I'm in need of one...prefer a take-off stock from an original rifle, but I'll entertain about any option someone my have/know of.

I bought a stock, but it is a custom stock and does not work with my rifle. This is going on a pre-war M70 in 300H&H. A stock inletted for the magnum length magazine box would be ideal, but it seems I could remove a very small amount of wood to allow the stock to receive the magnum mag box and a standard stock would work fine.

I don't require a SuperGrade or fancy stock, a good, solid standard stock will be just fine.

The pre-war is the only hard part. All Pre 64s had the same action length, and the only one that might have any differences in magazine box size would be the 300 H&H, not much difference in size though figuring 3.30 OAL for 30/06 and on the high end 3.655 for H&Hper Hodgdon.

I know for a fact the rest had the same external mag box dimensions, and for shorter calibers they used a permament internal spacer whether it was a 308, 257, or 22 Hornet.

Hope this helps

You are 100% correct. Hole spacing was consistent, the mag well just needs to be opened a bit on a standard stock. The prewar part makes it a tad more difficult.

I snagged a "fixer-upper" on fleabay earlier in the week. I hope to get it today or tomorrow, and I'm watching a supergrade stock on ebay that ends on Sunday. I'm not hopeful that the SG will stay at a semi-reasonable level, but I'm watching anyway, lol.

The "fixer-upper" cost me all of $40 shipped and looks structurally sound. It is a standard inlet, so I will need to relieve the mag well a bit to fit it together, but I'm going to wait till I know the fate of the SG stock before I do anything of that nature.

Assuming I stay with the 40-dollar stock, it may need a refinish, has no checkering (the lines look good, but some softening of the edges just a little) so a checkering job might be in order, and the seller did not show the recoil pad, so I will have to decide when I see it if it needs that replaced.

It should not take a ton of effort to make it look really good.

If the SG stock stays within reach, I'll get that and sell off the frankenstein stock on the gun now, the one I bought from Gunbroker that doesn't fit (rolled the dice and lost, lol), and this one I just bought. I may lose a couple bucks, but there were a few lessons learned along the way. :)
