Pretty Gun, Pretty Scenery

Thanks. I sold that rifle. Just too heavy for hiking the wilderness area.
I’m fickle about what I hunt with. The last 6 mulies I shot were with .308 (Nosler rifle), 7mm-08, .257 Roberts, .257 Weatherby, .270 Win., and .284 Win.

Last year I bought an Ultra Light Arms rifle in .338-06AI, anf I’ll use that on my October elk hunt. Wednesday I picked up another ULA (my 6th). This one in .257 Roberts Ackley Improved. That’ll be the deer rifle this fall.

I had a funny thing happen when loading a few rounds for the latest rifle. I grabbed Nosler No.. 9 for .257 Roberts AI loads. I had forgotten that I wrote that section!

All my ULA rifles are left handed. I’m right handed but left eye dominant.

Welcome to the forum.

I also am right-handed but shoot left-handed now due to (mid-life) nerve damage to my right eye.

Nice write up on the 257 Roberts Improved in the Nosler No. 9 manual. There are a couple of other section authors on the forum.

Welcome aboard. Big fan of #1s; big fan of both the 280 and 257 roberts and traveling in small aircraft. Looking forward to your stories.
Also a left eye dominant shooter, right handed.

Welcome! It looks like you are in the best of both worlds, a Ruger #1 and the location was beautiful. I will be interested in what you have to share.

Super cool pic Tom, love the fern pattern on your rifle! I’ve used Fern Leaves numerous times for rattle can paint jobs along with a Grass pattern on my aluminum duck boats.

I love my two Ruger 1B's in 6mm Remington and 30-06. Beautiful rifles that are wonderful to carry. Love those #1's!!! Also the 280AI. I had a Winchester Model 70 made into a 280AI. Fantastic cartridge. You done good!

Tom, I blame your dad for my sense of adventure, for hunting from Alaska to Mexico to Africa. Watching your dad on American Sportsman with Curt Gowdy was the highlight of my week. I’m happy you have joined our forum, I’m sure you have much to share.

Welcome to the forum. Interesting read on the 257 Roberts AI. I have been intrigued with this round since I got my Remington 700 Classic 257 Roberts.

I took this photo today of a .284 Winchester cartridge and a .257 Ackley Improved. Quite similar, I think. Interesting.
