I've been reloading for rifle some years now, but never for pistol...that is about to change. Can anyone tell me where the line is drawn between "small pistol" and "large pistol". I am going to reload for a 357 mag and have already taken some advice here about powder (H110) and 158gn bullets. I bought just a pack of Large pistol Magnum primers because I wasn't sure which way to go and now I imagine that I bought the wrong ones.

One other question. I am under the impression that I will need to crimp the bullets on these cartridges....is that correct?

Long

Small pistol
25 acp
32 acp
38 spcl
357 mag
40 S&w
9mm

small rifle
454 casull

Large pistol
44 SW/mag
41 mag
45 acp
45 LC
10mm
50 AE

Large rifle
500 S&W

Any manual will advise you of primer size.

A crimp on a handgun (whether roll or taper) is a good idea.

Roll crimp on revolvers (or any bullet with a cannelure (sp?)), taper crimp on autos.

If you plan on hunting with it use mag primers. They burn hotter, according to the manufacture. IF it's really cold out.

I am liking the possibility of using the mag primers. Any experience with what percent less powder (H110) I would need to start with for a 158 gn bullet?

Your data only lists max loads? If it does, the general rule is 10% from max.
