The 110 ACB worked well for my NM buck. At 200 yds, it dropped him like a rock. Pics to follow. Thanks to all who helped me develop this load.

CONGRATS DUDE!

That is an awesome speedgoat.

How big is he? What was your load? Do not hold out on us!

Right at 15"

Load was the 110 ACB with IMR4350.

My daughter shot hers with a .260. Hers is around 14"

Very very nice. I have 3 tags for Shirley Basin here in Wyoming. Will be filling them on the 29-30 Sept of this year. I am hyped!

Very nice goats! Congratulations to both you and your daughter.Tell us the story, we just gotta know the story.

She shoots a Remington 700 Mountain Rifle. This load was 100 grain Hornadys over some RL-15.

The hunt started on Saturday. On Friday night, we did some scouting and she saw her first rattlesnake. Scared her pretty good. We saw her buck on Friday and named him "Crip" (short for cripple) as we thought he would yank his leg off after jumping a fence and getting hung up. We saw him a long way off and contemplated going to his aid but he freed himself with no apparent lasting injury.

Saturday rolled around and I gave my daughter 1st crack at the buck we called "Drifter." She almost had a shot at him but it didn't feel right to her so she passed. Drifter was easy to pattern as he would run for a long way but always return to the same general area. Saturday came and went without any shots fired.

We decided on Sunday she would try for Drifter and if she could not connect, would go after either Crip or "Jack." "Jack got his name from his unique jacked up headgear. Would have made a unique mount. We found Drifter early and went after him but he made us and boggied out of the area. The search was now on for Jack or Crip. We found Jack first but he was out of range and some what in the neighborhood of Crip. We found Crip and his ladies going over the same fence he got hung up on. His path was anticipated and she crawled out with our guide for the shot. Once Crip cleared the does, my daughter shot him as he was some what broadside. The bullet was perfectly placed and Crip was down. We took care of the meat and caping chores and the hunt was on for Drifter.

Two hours later, Drifter was found herding his ladies. Crawling toward him, I put my hand on a cactus. Not good but there is no crying in hunting and had to suck it up and keep going. I was busted by the herd once and they ran off only to go about 1/4 mile. Drifter came up on a smaller buck and had to chase him away but allowed us to catch up. Getting ready for a shot at 200 plus yards, I found my bipod not high enough to get over the grass from the recent rains. I had to crawl up to a yucca or joshua tree (not sure what it was) and use that for a rest. I had a shot opportunity once while he was relieving himself but did not feel right ending his life that way. Eventually he gave me a broadside shot and he dropped like a rock when the AccuBond hit him.

It was a fun hunt. The weather was nice except for the wind on Saturday. It died down on Sunday. A long shot would have been challenging in that wind.

Thanks for the kind words.

Well I do not know about naming them before shooting them. I would get attached  .

Either way great job man! 100 gr Hornies huh? Man! when I used 100 gr BT or PT in my 260 (long gone now) I drove them at 3300+ fps. Basically a short 25-06.

Naming them made it easier to know which one we were talking about. Wanna know how "Ricco" got his name? Hint... Short for Ricco Suave. He was quite the ladies man.

Racklover,

Thanks for the great story! You are getting me pumped up for prairie goats. My season is in 374 days! I got an invite from a buddy in WY for next year.

Congrats again to both you and your daughter.

Great bucks. Glad to see the 25-06 and 110g AB performed flawlessly for you. Congrats to both of you for 2 great bucks and great pics!!

Beautiful Bucks!! Great story! I'd just about give my rifle to get my daughter along on a hunt like that, but then what would she use? I leave for douglas in a week! Cant wait. CL

Cloverleaf,

If that's what it takes, get her one for herself and paint it pink if she wants. Those memories last forever.

Derek,

It was outside of Vaughn, NM.

Next month I will take the 25-06 out for CA deer

November I will head back to NM for deer. That should be fun!

I agree.
My 5 year old Anna and my 11 year old Stephan will be coming with me for speedgoats on the 29th of Sept.!

Yup- I already tried that. I told her she could pick her color....no dice yet. She looked long and hard at the multi-color laminates from savage. She's a pretty good shot but kinda got the "Bambi" mentality. Some of that comes from growing up going to the store to get your beef I suppose. I dont want to push though, she's a great kid. Just keep the option out there and see what develops. She will turn 14 in a few days so I've still got a chance, its entirely up to her. To bad she dosent have friends here in "the big city" that like to shoot. She's into other stuff so I get to learn some new things- its all good :) CL
