Proximal Tendon Tear ; Am I risking further damage?

Well, another friend talked me into getting another 7mm Rem Mag instead of another .270! I settled on a new Bergara B14 Hunter, having it braked with a Gentry Quiet Brake, just wanted to try them. Just left it at the Smith last week for a TT Special, skim bed and the brake.

Then. yesterday and today about 4hrs each day at the Range, I finally worked up a load in the '06 with the Nosler 200 PT. That N560 settled down at 60gr in WW cases, WLRM all for 2680fps average! The group called for it to be set a tad deeper (10 thou) and at 3.34" COAL another four could all be covered with a quarter! BUT....even with the Past Recoil Shield, the accumulated shooting over several hours made the old shoulder ache pretty bad. Bummer! So I decided to have it braked also, along with the B14 7mm Rem Mag. Hey, it is what it is, ha!
 
Physical Therapist said it will take about a year for the Periodical pain to subside and the rest of the shoulder to "adjust for" the missing mucle strength. I am soooo missing a good 300WM or 338 Win Mag! My "favorite" was the 338 RUM or 340 Wby! I the last two with a Brake, and even then you had better "hang on", ha

I really think I will be just fine with a brake/soft pad on anything I want to shoot. The The '06 and 7mRM (with their new Gentry Brakes and soft pads ) will be shot more often than anything bigger I'd want anyhow. With both of those rounds, I don't miss any 300 Mag I've had. I am in love with the 338 cal though, for elk! I always felt like even the lightweight mono's in 338+ calibers kill as well or even faster than a heavy for caliber Cup n Core in any 30 cal. But that's just me. A local guy is selling a Gem for a song , a 700 Classic 338WM, already braked, bedded, trigger adjusted and a 3.5x10 Leupold! All I have to add is soft pad and a Dead Mule Recoil Reducer! Its "calling my name"!!

Should be a hammer on elk, especially with a 250 gr AB.

Well, I bought the sweet deal! Mod 700 Classic, 338WM older (turning purple!) 3.5x10 AO with a very long eye relief too! Has a Decelerator pad already. My Smith is going to change out the Brake to a 3 Port design and adjust out the tiny bit of creep out of the trigger. Its already bedded. The LOP is around 14.5" and actually can work for my knuckle draggers! I'm going to try it out first. A longer LOP makes the felt recoil a bit easier to control, for me anyhow. My electric Heated Vest and a Hoody is all I need on the Hunt, no big coat with this one, ha. If the LOP needs to be shorter, will go with a Dead Mule Reducer then. It also came with 9 boxes of its favorite loads (Barnes 175X, Hornady 225 and some 250 Hornady round Nose. Plus extra Dies . He was "done"! ha The previous owner "got it bloody" (what they call a "Proven Rifle") for years on elk and one Henry Mountains Bison. He had taken great care of the rifle too, 95+ % Condition! No, I do not feel ashamed! ha If I went just by the present Mkt, I would have to pay 2.5 times for it! I'm guessing the extended stock LOP kept the Neophytes away! lol

Now, I do plan on rotating these rifles when hunting, so no telling which one will I get "Bloody" first! ha I am set up for rifles now ( three is about my Max ever anyhow) Best part is going to that Physical Therapist my shoulder is "settling down now", ha I can live with "sore" as long as I know I am not injuring it further. I feel much better about my physical health now. Thanks for the encouragement guys! You are the best!

Update: Cow hunt last Dec was postponed for my wife’s surgery, a back fusion. Meantime I have been wheeling dealing. The 338 Classic got sold to buy a Fierce 7 RM, now it’s gone for a mod 700 ADL SS baby. Got it all tricked out, then a month ago said “ shoulder”
Got stiff and sore! I agreed to crunch numbers to find what I can “ safely” shoot now. I’m having an heirloom JC Higgins 30-06 put in a Butler Creek . Seems it’s still heavy enough when I add a brake and use my PAST shield I can use full power Barnes 150 TTSX. Fine with me. I will pick up a smaller round locally for a range toy, maybe emergency elk. Tough getting old! Lol
 
You got that right! ha I had an injecttion in it last week, given strict instructions "No shootng/Handloading" for two weeks. Oh well :)

Hope all goes well with the wife's fusions! My 4 neck fusions, well 1 of the 4 didn't go so well (C2 to C3). AND hopefully you'll get back to shape in no time!

I did go ahead yesterday and ordered a Lead Sled ( I hated to do it too!) I can do alot with about any rifle off it, but I'm just being safe. Once I get my load set for the 150 TTSX in my heirloom JC Higgins '06 (which I'm having braked and a nice soft recoil pad put on) I'll shoot it in for zero and be set. On a side note, my back blew out last February (bad spasms, couldnt stand up straight for a long time) Monday I finally see the back surgeon ( he has operated on me twice, but no fusion) and see what he says now. I have a great Physical Therapist thats kept me mobile so far, ha. I really dont think he will suggest anything right now, I'm doing very well with the low back for now. PTL Im counting on this shoulder settling down and being "gentler" with it, ha. Thats what 20+ yrs of Military and Oilfield work, Rigging, Trucking will get you (this was "before" going into Ministry fulltime in '90. The three years I was in Bible College in Tulsa i worked hauling bread in semis at night for Rainbow, thats where I bloew out the bottom disc in '89 and had first surgery, so that was the end of my Commercial Trucking then. I dont miss it, moving drilling rigs in a pine sapling thicket in summertime East Texas with no breeze is an "experience", lol
