Palmetto state armory has been having some crazy daily deals on ar15 and ar308 kits lately. Based on my satisfaction with the PSA AR15 freedom rifle kits I got last Black Friday I recently picked up a PSA PA10 18" key mod upper for 550 cobined with 189 dollar blem lowers. I figured for under 750 it was pretty hard to pass up.

First things I swapped out the factory buttstock and pistol grip for a set of magpul and swapped the stock trigger with a Giessele SD-C. The rifle looked great, even being a blem lower I couldn’t find anything wrong with it. I mounted a 6x42 Milquad SWFA Super Chicken in DNZ freedom reaper bases.

The rifle functioned great. Everything worked like it was supposed to. It dropped brass consistantly at 2 o’clock position in a relatively small area. It fed well and locked open on empty magpul 10 and 20 round magazines.

Accuracy was decent. It started excellent with first 3 shots clustered into a sweet little .5” group at 100 yards. I only tested two loads to start. Some PMC 147gr FMJ for function testing and PPU 168gr Match. The PPU ammo is cheap but has proven to be accurate in several other rifles. 5 shot groups at 100 yards were consistantly in the 1.25-1.5”. I only shot three 5 shot 200 yard targets, best was just over 2.5” the worse was 3.25”, I shot several 300 yard groups, They were very consistant 3x5” groups showing a greater vertical variance. It won’t be winning any bench rest competitions but for what it is I was very pleased. Definately showing some great potential.

Very nice! I went with the Ruger SR762, but I really enjoy the 308 AR. I barely even shoot my AR15s anymore.

I have heard a lot of very good things about the SR762. Its a hell of a rifle. I looked at one very closly before I bought my first DPMS LR308 Gen II. Considering the problems I had with the Gen II LR308 I should have probalby just gone with the SR762 instead. I eventually ironed out all the Gen II problems but traded it for a really accurate Rem 700 260 in a KRG chassis.

The main reason that I picked up the PA10 was at the price I couldn’t pass it up. I was just happy if worked so well right out of the gate. The AR10 variants can be a pain in the butt since not everything is compatable. I really wish they would standardize the AR10/LR308 variants like they did the AR15.

While a little heavier the 308 ARs are pretty nice hunting rifles. I couldn’t think of a better hog hunting rifle for those occasions that a group of hogs come in.

I'm currently setting up a few friends who have been considering AR10s with the PA10. I think it is a great deal.
