Good grief - I hadn't heard about this case until this morning. Copied from a post on X:

"Douglass Mackey

@dougmackeycase

Douglass Mackey Case and the Meme Defense Fund

President Donald Trump: "They're putting Douglass Mackey in jail for sharing a joking meme about Hillary Clinton seven years ago. Nobody ever heard of anything like that."

Background: On January 27, 2021, five days after Joe Biden’s inauguration, FBI agents arrested the man behind the popular pro-Trump Twitter account RickyVaughn99. In the run up to the 2016 election, I posted two joking memes that told Hillary Clinton voters to “skip the line” and vote-by-text. Federal prosecutors in the Eastern District of New York claimed that this violated 18 USC 241, which punishes conspiring to "injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate any person" for exercising their constitutional or federal rights, with penalties of up to ten years in prison. The statute is designed to prevent violent voter suppression. It has never been used to prosecute speech. In 2023, I was convicted at trial in the Eastern District of New York and sentenced to seven months in prison. The district court denied my request for an appeal bond despite the strength of the appeal. That decision was reversed by a bipartisan panel at the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. My appeal was officially filed in January of this year and argued in April of this year.

What’s at stake: A favorable ruling in this milestone First Amendment case would severely curtail the ability of the federal government to weaponize the DOJ against conservative political speech–or really, any speech unfavorable to the administration in power. In fact, according to a Reuters article based on FBI and DOJ sources, my prosecution is a test case designed to set “the stage for new 'misinformation' and 'disinformation' cases against more prominent conservative actors" that the government doesn’t like. At trial, the Justice Department could not produce a single person that did not vote because of the meme, claiming that all they needed to do was to prove that a “conspiracy” to disenfranchise voters existed. Proof of such a “conspiracy” was entirely circumstantial–no direct evidence was offered that I conspired to create this meme, distribute it, or actually intended to disenfranchise any voters.

My cause has been championed by President Donald Trump, Tucker Carlson, Donald Trump, Jr., and many other political figures. The Harvard Law Review recognized the prosecution as a grievous attack on satire. My appeal in the 2nd Circuit featured an amicus brief by prominent First Amendment scholar Eugene Volokh, among others."

He goes on to appeal for donations so he can appeal and keep the case going as high as he needs to take it. Good grief.

It goes both ways. Trump is the leader when it comes to projection. Don't trust him.
What did Trump project onto the Ds that he was actually doing?

They said Trump would use his office to go after political rivals….. who ran a campaign that she was going to get Trump if elected?
They said Trump would ruin the economy.
They said Trump would start WW3
They claim Trump broke the border……remember when the Ds didn’t have $5B to finish the wall but we apparently have 100s of billions for illegals and benefits.

Pravda lied to you for years. Remember Russia Russia Russia?
Remember when hunter’s laptop was disinformation? Covered up by MSM…
Remember the 51 intelligence officers?

But Trump is projecting……right

All that stuff is made up or twisted. You've been sold a bill of goods.
What has trump done for gun owners? A bump stock ban? A supreme court that rules only halfway in favor of 2A rights? Even when he had a GOP senate and congress he did jack.

Sorry, I got off topic. What issues do hunters have that can be addressed this voting season? And by whom?
We can start with the anti-gun crowd. I read not too long ago the one state does not allow hunting with a suppressor on state land. They can only be used on priave ground with the owners written permission. The feds have already stated the could outlaw hunting on federally own land, wich they inlude BLM and forest lands alther technically those lands belong to we the people. As a hunt you could easily be disallowed to unt with any bullet containing lead. California is a prime example. hey may never disallow hunting but they cam damn well disallow and method by which you could accomplish the way to do a hunt. Think past your nose. "There's more than one way to skin a cat." and govrnment know all the ways there are. They just have to implement them.
Some states have scads of deer and I'll use California again because I once lived there and experience their stupidity. You hunt there and in most, if not all places you see dozens od doe and spikes but no legal forked hunt bucks. Why? because spikes and does have been sacred cows in California since way the hell and gone before I was born. I was born in 1938, you do the math. In California does have been know to grow antler. I know because I shot on andd when getting checked out the game warden wrote me a ticket which I fought and won BTW. I did lose the deer though. It spoiled in storage while waiting to got to court.
My point is politicians can literally do whatever they want when passing laws that could affect hunting and shooting. Fighting through the courts takes years. Pay attention not only to their voting records but what they may say "off the record."

The lead ammo bans are an issue for sure. Republicans have been more helpful on that front.

Public lands however have been a mixed bag.

Meateater has a column on how some Conservatives have plans that could harm hunting and habitat.
-selling off public lands

-replacing management scientists with political appointees

-reinstate a Trump-era rule that requires state and local governments to approve of federal land acquisitions purchased using Land and Wildlife Conservation Fund dollars. If a private landowner were interested in selling or donating a property to the federal government as part of an LWCF project, both the governor and county officials would need to sign off in support of an otherwise private real estate transaction.

-complete elimination of permanent federal conservation easements.

-champion the elimination of the Conservation Reserve Program.” The CRP is one of America’s longest-running and most successful private land conservation programs. The CRP is a cost-share and rental program where farmers are incentivized to take certain lands out of agricultural production and leave them as cover providing diverse, native habitat for wildlife and often access for hunters.

Even tho Trump has distanced himself from the Project 2025, he still meets with the Heritage Foundation and they have been planning for and influencing presidents going at least back to Reagan.

There was no movement on suppressors last time Republicans held the majority.

Seem like no one party....
