Since draawing the Sheep tag I've been way too over anxious to get to the mountains and start scouting. I can still see a lot of snow up there and figured it's still a little early.
I took a buddy from work today and headed for the hills... more of an excuse to get out of the house and avoid the painting project that was going on here :grin:
Saw a few elk, one goat, the normal sheep by the interstate and these dudes @ about 11,800 feet altitude. Amazes me at how well they blend in.

I didn't realize that Ptarmigan were in CO. I have seen them up in Canada Caribou hunting.

Yep, we see them about every year up there.. always above timberline.

Absolutely about that camo pattern...... a guy usually about steps on the darn things before he realizes they are even there....
 
Their natural camouflage is amazing!
The only reason we saw them was because they were starting to turn white in early Sept when we were there hunting caribou.
