Pulled the Trigger on a Few Old Friends

Very nice Mike! That new 280 looks just excellent the way you have it set up and man, it is a great shooter!

That old M70 280 seems like it is a great shooter as well for sure! It certainly looks like it really shoots well, with the 140's! It really gets the 280 blood moving in me!

That 9.3 just sounds perfect. 250 at 2700 is right on! That is right there with the 338 with more frontal area and a bullet that should penetrate FAR.. I hope the 300 grain Swift's shoot for you, but man, I can't see you having any trouble hammering anything with that 250 AB! Great day.. I need to get out myself..

The Featherweight has accounted for quite a few deer, usually shooting 139 grain Hornady SP. No deer has ever required a second shot. The Partition load should be a hammer on about anything. I wouldn't hesitate to use it on moose and/or elk. It would be better than a stick in the eye in the event of facing an agitated grizzly. I have an older load with 140 grain BSTs that give me 0.5 MOA and good velocity, as well. The new one, with the slightly longer pipe, does boost velocity somewhat. However, the Winnie isn't just moping around.

Nope, for sure. That rifles looks danged nice. Great pair of 280's for sure!

Good showing, Mike. I certainly empathize with the urge to tinker, but you've got good starting points with all three of those. And they're great looking rifles!

Tragically, I'm an inveterate tinkerer. It's the scientist in me expressing itself.

This is allowed, why not have several great loads for a gun instead of just one? Finding some great loads is quite enjoyable.

Without a doubt.

For sure. The Winchester .280 has at least five loads that give me consistently 0.25 to 0.50 inch groups at 100 yards. Most of them have accounted for some nice deer in years past. Interestingly, I never carried this rifle for elk or moose; I should have.

Good thing you still can Mike, however your SS/laminate 280 might start to complain loudly if neglected. Those guns can get pretty vocal if not paid attention to.

I'm working up a load with 150 grain PTs for the laminate, Gerry. These are giving me excellent accuracy and superb velocity in initial tests.

Nice rifles for sure. Is the 9.3 in a featherweight stock? That setup would rock a bear. When do the bears start showing up down there?

The 9.3 is in a Sporter stock. Bear opens on Monday (April 1), but I wouldn't anticipate really seeing many bears before May 1st.
