Found a purty one and bought it. Shoots good too. Early 1980's 7mm Rem mag, a favorite cartridge of mine:

Couldn't resist - took it to the range this afternoon for a short trial. Everything is doing fine at this point!

Wow!! Hard to beat a #1!! and a pretty on at that! Great "big gun" compliment to the 25-06. Jealous....Very nice. CL

Guy,

Beautiful #1, congratulations. Looks like a Redfield scope on her.
What bullets are you thinking of trying in your 7mm Rem Mag?

VERY NICE INDEED, that is really cool Guy. Wow, it looks in great condition. You should really like that one. Something will fall to that rifle this year.

Thanks guys - that is a 2-7x Redfield on the rifle. I've always liked the single-shot Rugers, and owned two before this one. Sadly, I had to sell those rifles and I've been missing a Number One ever since. When I learned this one was available, I sold a Model 70 to make room and cash for the Number One.

I like 'em so much, I could see doing the vast majority of my hunting with three Number Ones:

This one for general purpose deer, bear & elk.
One with a little bore for varmints & coyotes.
One with a big bore for poking big holes in big critters...

I think that would pretty well take care of my hunting "needs." Tell ya though, from what I've seen from the 7mm in the field, I'm not sure a guy really needs anything bigger unless he's trying to stop a big bear from eating him. Then no gun would be too big!

Gotta love a 7 mag with a 160 grain bullet. I know I do! That sure is a pretty stick even if it is a ruger :p

"even if it is a ruger"

Ow! Ouch! Yeah, I was interested in getting one, but not too worked up until I got a photo of the rifle... Then I was hooked.

Whoa Guy, that is a beaut. I bet you just sit at home, when you aren't shooting it, just lookin at that purty wood.  Yep, just lookin and grinnin.

That is some seriously attractive wood on the stock. Someone messed up at Ruger to let that get out of the factory.

Looks like a good one Guy! I love the simplicity of the #1.
And the wood is truly great!

I think the Ruger 1 is an elegant rifle. I almost bought one in 25-06 back in the mid 80's but a cute little blond changed things.

Nice rifle,
Great cartridge. I load the 160 grain acubond in my buddies 7 mag, and also in my STW. Great choice for an all around bullet.
Try it with RL-22 first. I get I think 3050 from my buddies 24 inch tube, with that combo, and very tight groups.
My STW do's about 3200 and super acurate with H-1000.
