QL Request 25-06 edition

Can one of you kind gents run a couple loads for me?

25-06, 24" 1:7.5 tw barrel
1) 115gr Ballistic Tips, H4831, Hornady brass, CCI 200
2) 121gr Hammer Hunters, H4831, Hornady brass, CCI 200

The first one I think will be a ballistic duplicate of a 280 Ackley load I'm developing, but Nosler excluded the powder for the 115s in 25-06's data in #9.
The second is just something I was wondering about. I loaded some that shot lights out and forgot a chrono.

When projecting with QL, there is no parameter for primers. The recommendation is to use the primer that has the least brisance that will still give you complete ignition. Again, with only a couple of exceptions, the loads projected are not based upon brass manufacturer, but upon measured case volume. Having said that, here are the projections you requested.\

Either load will give you some fine performance. That's for sure.

I just had a custom 25/06 built with a 1/7 twist 24” barrel on a Model 70 action. I worked up a load last week almost identical to what you ask except I used IMR 4831, 115 gr NBT, Hornady brass, CCI 200, 52.0 grs , 3080 fps , .775” group. While it shot the 117-110 gr bullets well, it really liked the 100 gr bullets even better. This surprised me with this fast twist designed for the heavier bullets.

Oh my bad; I apologize. I'm rather new to the QL stuff, so I was just going off of what parameters other people have used in their threads.

Thanks a bunch for running the loads. According to the calculator, if I can get a good load around max, I'll be practically matching my 280 AI load's trajectory out to at least 700 (140gr Partition going 3180). I wouldn't shoot further than 350-400 anyways.

I started to get surprised at the 121 gr hammer's projected velocities, but then I remembered how fast you can push em. I loaded them with 57gr of H4831 and got a nice cloverleaf. I ran out of them after that; I just got a sample pack of 15. I didn't hit any pressure signs, so that's good.

I wish I would have used a 1:7 for the 128 Hammers but mine shoots so well I figure it's okay.

What really gets my goat is how well it shoots 117gr SSTs. This is a 5 shot group:

I don't often use H4831 with the 25-06, but when I do, it does real well.

You guys and your fast-twist barrels... ;) If I ever replace my 25-06 barrel, I'll go with a faster twist as well.

It's definitely worth it if you ever burn out your current barrel!

Not a matter for which an apology is needed. I mentioned it only to explain why I don't include data detailing which primer to use or which brass to use. You can refine the loading data by measuring case volume. Deoxygenate water by allowing to sit out uncovered overnight, which drives off free oxygen. Then tare your once-fired brass before adding the deoxygenated water with a pipette until you form a convex meniscus. That data will refine projections making them more precise still.

Oh, and that is some fine shooting. It qualifies as a group deserving of bragging rights. I know of people that laminated groups that were far less worthy of being praised.(y)

I'm pretty happy that the barrel shoots them well, but I wish the SST was a tougher bullet than it is.
