A few months back I posted about a conversion project I wanted to try, converting a Savage 111 in 7mm Rem Mag to 28 Nosler. Well, the job is done and the rifle conversion is complete. Very happy with the 28 Nosler so far, but have only been shooting factory ammo. About to begin reloading.
My question is, Since it is a converted Savage the barrel length is only 24" as compared to the 26" Nosler rifles have and the reloading manuals typically assume. I know I will see a decrease in overall velocity, but I also imagine that might effect the total powder burnt and may impact which powders I experiment with, as slower burning powders may need that extra 2".
I'm experimenting with 160grain Accubonds ands 175grain Partitions. At my disposal I have Reloder 17, 22, 25, 26, 33. Where is the most logical starting point for me?
