Are you going to give them a shot Bill?

Well I'm going out in the am to see if I can get them to shoot, if they do, I intend to give them a go this season for deer. But I if have a change of heart with the VLD's I do have my AccuBond load shooting well out to 500 yards.

How did you do at 500 with the ABs.

Scotty it started out like this. I had 6 rounds of twice fired brass and 9 rounds of 4 times fired brass all of the exact same charge, primers, bullets, trim length, full length resized. I fired 6 rounds of the 4 times fired brass at 400 yards and it sucked, 2 MOA group. Put a target up at 100 and shot a 2 MOA group. I was pizzed to say the least. Decided to try my 2 times fired brass and shot the smallest group yet, slightly over 1/2 MOA, normally it's 1 MOA. With my last 3 rounds I did what is below.

I didn't shoot at 500 for group size I shot at 2, 1 gallon water filled milk jugs. I fired 3 shots as that is all I had left. First shot I missed the call on the wind and hit to the right of the jug. Next 2 shots I corrected for the wind and hit dead center elevation but 3 inches to the right of center and the 3rd shot was again dead center elevation but 2 inch and some change to the left of center.

I will be back out to shoot for group size at 500 and 600 yards but not with brass fired more than 3 times with out annealing that's for sure.

I'm pretty sure it was either the 264 or 270WSM that got me started annealing just for the reason you just mentioned.

Glad your drilling stuff with them though. I like the 140 AB in mine a lot.

I had the issues years back with my 338 Lapua until Rick S got me straightened out on the need for annealing. Work harden brass will screw up groups quick fast and in a hurry that's for sure.

I really like the 140 AB but am curious to see what a VLD will do.

I've gotten into the habit of annealing every time since keeping track of a bunch of different cartridges was too much. Since I've started annealing each time I feel like brass life and my overall consistency has gone through the roof.

I need to be more diligent on annealing that is for sure.
