I am just curious as to what is the majority 30-06 165gr at 2850-2900fps or 180gr at 2700-2750fps. I am in the 165gr crowd from ground squirrels to elk. AB's and NP's. Thanks for playing

I would lean towards the 180 gr as a do all bullet but either one will work.

Because I have a 300 WSM using 180s and 200s, I lean to 165/168 grain bullets for my 30-06. However, I would not be disadvantaged with 180s.

It is either 165 gr. Partitions or Accubonds for me in my 30-06 :!:  2940 fps out of a 26" barrel on my Ruger #1B.

Seeing as how there are very few elk in N Tx I'm in the 165 crowd.
Filled a lot of deer tags with an 06,IMR4350 and a 165.

Works pretty well out of a 308 also

Put me in the 165 AB boat. will work for elk and still plenty fast to be semi flat shoooting.

I went with 180AB & ET. I couldn't get the 165AB to shoot. I get 2830fps w/the 180AB and 2750fps w/the 180ET.

My go to bullet for all-around use in the .30-06 is a 180 gr. NP. Works fine on the smaller game, and I just have more confidence in it for the heavier game, than the 165 gr. NP.

Same here, a 180gr PT and a 30-06 are like Peanut Butter and Jelly! Scotty

165 AccuBond or 168 TTSX for me.

Does anyone know if the 168 ballistic tip has a thicker jacket than the 165 grainer? I know that the 180 for sure is heavier jacketed than the 165 is.

I take my .30-06 brass, neck all the worthless space out of it... then shoot 100 grain .257 pills... can't believe this hasn't caught on...

Songdog, that was pretty funny! I had to read it twice! I am hoping to have a good 25-06 rifle to shoot some .257 bullets out of soon! Scotty

Used the 180 AB to take my elk and deer this year in an 06.......
When I buy a bullet for matches or hunting head to the range to do a
accurate test on groups at hunting distances with a group as tight as possible.
The question is which shoots the best group at the distances and has
the better reviews.
Do like the 180gr over the 165gr both do a good job.

I use the 165 AB or PT in the .30-06 for everything from antelope to mule deer. For elk, I prefer the 180 gr Partition bullet just because of higher BC.
