I'm looking for a Quickload request for a 300wsm with 215 Bergers in a 26" barrel with a OAL of 3.175". I'd like the same thing with a 300win mag at a OAL of 3.735. I'm curious how close the two are with the bullets seated at about the same place in the neck to maximize capacity. Thanks in advance.

I ran them both at 63k so they would be apples to apples
The QL default on the WSM is 63817 and the Win Mag is 64k so I equalized it.

For the most common loads the velocity gap is a lot closer it seems. Most people shoot H-1000 in the 300wm 2950-3000fps with 75-78gr and for top loads in the WSM it seems like 7828 is the ticket at about 10grs less powder. So if you look at those two it is only around 40fps according to QL. The thing that appeals to me is the charge weight difference between the too. That translates into quite a bit less recoil for the WSM. Since I'm looking to build a lighter weight backpack gun that is appealing. With a 10lb rifle that is 28.5lbs of recoil versus 32.4 using QL charge weights with the powders mentioned. That's about 15% more recoil for 40-50fps. Since the 300wsm is taking over 1000yd benchrest for the .30 calibers I might give it a whirl. I already have brass and dies so I'm just a reamer away at this point. It would be fun to chamber a barrel for a 300wm to find top velocity/accuracy and then set it back just enough to punch a 300wsm reamer in it to see what it get's.

The 1000yd guys are getting phenomenal barrel life from them. Well over 2000 rounds with some around 2500. The old 308 Baer/300 AI rifles that everyone use to use would only hold around 1000 rounds of accuracy life. The guy I talked to said the brass life is amazing as well with well over 20 reloads on both Winchester and Norma brass. He only runs in the 2800fps range with 210's though so that helps with brass life I'm sure. He has set numerous 1000yd records with one at the PA 1000yd benchrest. It seems like it is a modern version of the old 30-338 Win. mag.

Fwiw, I shoot that bullet outta a strait win mag and get excellent accuracy, half MOA at 800? Last time out. I use H1000 and seat them 0.015" off the lands, MV is 3,000 per magneto and 28" Hart.
