As most know I bought a nice used Remington tactical just shy of 2 years ago. Well I have been working on loads for it, off and on. Its been a great rifle and very easy to load for and not to picky on what I feed it, but AOL has to be exact. Groups have been hovering around the low .200's up to .400, for quite some time. I always thought it would do a little better so I have been slowly going through some different combinations of components. Varget and RL-15 being the primary powders, Nosler CC and Seirra Match King (both 168 gr. ) the bullets, and Laupa and FC. Match, the cases, along with CCI standard rifle primers. Whatever what combination I use I got the same results. I have read that .308 likes Magnum primers. So today I shot 1 group with the standard primers (lower left) and the other using mag primers, (lower right) Both groups using the match king. Then I shot two more groups using standard primers, RL -15 Nosler CC and again the SMK., and changed the case to plain old vanilla W Westerns, that I had from my last .308. I had worked them over last winter when I was in braces, and used them today. Top center, the SMK at 6 oclock 4 inches out and the Custom Comps, at 5 oclock at 1 inch out. I believe I may have found my load.

What I think is rather unusual is that the very best group was fired with the lowest priced brass. Not something that all, want to hear I would imagine. I may get a chance to re-shoot again soon. I doubt I can replicate it but I have a good benchmark to strive for.

Very nice Bill.. Now it's time to really stretch that rig out and see what it does out yonder...

Doesn't surprise me at all. In both my 7mm Mag. and .300 Win. Mag. the only cases I use are the old Winchester Western. Many years ago, when brass was more available, I would buy in lots of 100 and shoot the stew out them.
Both those rifles have loads that shoot 1/2 MOA and under. All with el cheapo WW brass.

I did well in many 600 yard matches, shooting lightly prepped Winchester .308 brass. It's tough brass!
