Here are some results with the 338WM with RL19 and H4831. Still a little more work to do with H4831 as it seems very accurate and getting better as I near a max load for my rifle.

Here are the targets

Anyhow, I really love this B&C stock! Very awesome addition to the rifle. I did just shoot an extra group with the my proven load of 76gr's RL19, 225gr SST and WW cases. Those average 2890 over the chrono and were shot less than 5 minutes after the last 72gr load of 4831 was shot. The rifle shoots!

There is alot of hope in H4831, but right now, RL19 has a winner at just over 2700. I will continue to push H4831 a little further, but it is nice to know I have a load I can just load up and shoot. Not looking for bug holes, but the 338 seems to be coming around pretty well. I am liking H4831 though. Seems to be very consistent for the heavier bullets in the 338. Scotty

Scotty,

Reshoot 72.0 grs H4831. Also try the same load but with the bullet seated a little deeper. You are almost there.

I am going to push a little deeper in the powder range up to 75gr's. Cases look excellent, and primers are still very rounded. I know it is not an absolute, but I think there is room to grow some with H4831. Nosler states 2780, so I am more than a 100 down from them. I would like to match the RL19 load and see how accuracy is. I do like the H series powders, being insensitive to heat/cold. Plus, Nosler does say it is their most accurate with the 250's so it has to mean something, right? Scotty

Hey range boy, where's your SHOT ONE & DONE- 1ST SHOT? :p  I know these weren't sighted in and you were just doing load development. Did that B&C stock help with the recoil on the 338?

It looks good from here. You're well on your way with those loads.

David, I threw my target up in the post for you. It really was crap luck, but that is the way the cleaned, cold bore shot went. Anyhow, I think I win! Just kidding. I will be able to start soon with the competition with the 45-70 and likely the 338 and the Whelen soon enough.

David, I love that stock. I don't think there is a better fully aluminum bedded stock out there for the price. It has really made my 338 a joke to shoot. Just about everything is going MOA or so. Maybe not bug holes like Jim and Mike shoot, but good enough for me! Scotty

Thanks Mike. It is getting close. Scotty

Scott -
I reallylike that 72 grain load of 4831 as a "let's play" group. Don't for get about the primers; that may be all you need with a seating depth change. Just do one thing at a time.

I still have some work but I'm getting closer. Dang rifles are darned near giving me heat stroke with all this shooting in 100 degree temps. Scotty

Scotty did I mention it was a pleasant and quite comfortable 53 degrees at 10:30 AM this morning when I went to shoot! :p

I am going to load up some more H4831 tomorrow and get it back out on Sunday. I am thinking I will head down to Woodycreeks and do a little shooting with him. Should be a good day. I think H4831 should be a winner, just needs a little extra in order for me to be happy. Right now the Whelen is eating the 338's lunch with 250's. Scotty

H4831 sure is a really good powder. Scotty do you use the Short Cut? That's what I've been using because it meters so easily and you can get more in the case too.

Yes sir, the H4831SC. Seems to meter pretty well. I will get some more loaded up shortly. I think it will be close between RL19 and H4831 to be honest though. Both are shooting pretty darned well. Scotty

One nice thing about a .338 WM is that you do not need MOA to do what you set out to do. Your groups are all pretty respectable for a .338 and any of those shots would be an elk, DRT! It looks as though that stock has solved your grouping issues with the .338 WM? I always figured that minute of a jumbo chicken egg at 200 yards is a killer with any .338.

I think so also Charlie. The stock has really made the rifle consistent. It just plain out shoots well now. Scotty

Here are some more H4831 results with the 250gr PT. Overall, I don't see H4831 doing anything RL19 doesn't do better in this rifle. Still have a decent load to work with, but I believe RL19 will be better.

74gr's shows some promise, but I think I am going to stick with RL19 and 22 for this rifle. Just shoots better and faster. Although, nothing wrong to me with H4831 and 250's moving at 2700 either. Scotty
