Range Day 35 AI

Now one thing more...after you get a good full caliber int he neck and try them and if they still don't shoot, take your best load and then "put a CCI BR2" primer in! If it won't settle down with the magnum primer "it could be" that ignition is too violent ( or whatever the right Internal Ballistics terminology is) from the magnum primer. Hey, its only time & money, right? Look at the trigger time your are getting though! I only have one load with a magnum primer, my R15/250PT. All the rest are BR2. I went to the BR2 during the summer between my first and second year at Bible School. Only rifle I owned at that time was the 1917 (sporterized by then) my uncle gave me when I was 16. I had been reading a lot and the "primer pocket uniforming/flash hole deburring articles were around ( '87) and I got the hand tools to do it myself ( Sinclair Intl). I weighed my cases, did the uniforming and it actually did cut my groups in half! I then began to notice that even my tight groups were vertically stringing ( or stacking in this case). I read an article in Handloader magazine that was very informative and got some BR2s ( I could only buy a box of 100 at a time...money too tight to mention! ha) Bingo! Bugholes most of the time, if I held my mouth right and I was having a good day ( hey, even Preachers have their moments!) Not every rifle has responded to these little tricks, but if the rifle shows promise, it usually helps a lot. Off to work I go! Have a blessed day Dude.

Hey TD, good results from the range. I actually like what you got with RL17/250 gr Partitions! That's a solid 2700 fps from a reasonably aerodynamic bullet. And 250 grains... Thumper.

I have had a trip to the range and looks like the QL predictions for my gun for the 200 TTSX with TAC/XBR8208 are on the high side pressure wise. I have dropped back on the charge weights for both powders for next time. Point to be taken here is even though I chose powder charges in the 57k psi range, that was not enough for "starting low". Always err for caution. Will report back!

Back to the speeds Rodger is getting with the 250 Partitions... I do not have any 250 gr Partitions. I do have Speer 250 gr spitzers and Hornady 250 gr SP's.

Would someone please run a QL for those bullets and RL17? Do I need to include my gun and case specifics each time a request is made? Thanks in advance.

With the FCD, is the case length the limiting factor here, or is it the blown-out case walls? The FCD is case length in-sensitive, you can turn it down to where you need it for adjustment and subsequent crimp strength you need. Correct me if I am wrong? I use the one I have for my 300 Win Mag on my 30-06 with no issues. 2.610" trim length on 300 Win, 2.494" on the 30-06. Just have to loosen the lock ring and turn the die in as needed for the desired crimp.

Like others have said you can shorten the seating depth until the group comes together or if you have room pressure wise tweek the powder charge up/down 2/10's of a grain at the current seating depth and see what happens. If it tightens up some go in the same direction 2/10's more and recheck.
