I played a little with the long suffering STW today. After buying new cases, new powder and several hundred Nosler Accubonds I shot a very nice 4 shot, 120 yard group of .461. The change was primarily the case (went to a STW case rather than a 8mm Mg case) and used the same H-1000 and CCI primers I have always used. The AOL was reduced to 3.640. I am sure that I did that another time but I also now have a micronameter that has a digtial readout. I did shoot a 5th shot but the mireage (sp) was getting to me and I punched it out an inch. Now I will try it again in a few days. If I can do it a couple of times more I will be a happy man and done testing.
I have no pictures.

Bill,

Will you be toting the STW for elk this fall? It sounds as if it is doing okay.

Glad the STW is working for you Bill. You had said it was a real pain of a rifle Friday morning before going to the range.

Dr Mike

I will be toting the 300 Win Mag, the STW will hopefully (if the groups hold) will be the backup to the 300. The STW is equipped with a 3.5 X 10 Leupold with the BDC reticle and Harris bipod and will be the primary for setting out on the bare points watching for elk across canyons. If the groups hold I will try it out to 500 +, that was where I ran into my problems two years ago. We will see, we have company coming today and will have them for a week so I probably won't get back to it for a bit.

For those of you suffering in the East (woody) we are having our hottest day of the year here today at 86. Seattle has had two days so far this summer over 80, today might make three. Monday back to the 70's, I feel for you all but we are in the ice age in the NW.

Rub it in, Bill. Woody and Scotty need to have some grasp of the hardships endured in the Pacific Northwest, what with decent weather and all. The STW is certainly sufficient for elk. My hunting partner carries an STW loaded with 160 grain ABs. It has dropped quite a few head of game, including a number of elk and moose. It seems to work very well indeed.

Great shooting Bill. Can't wait to hear how th STW does at longer ranges. Scotty

Things are certainly looking hopefull. I've always been curious about the STW. What does it kick like, say compared to your 300 win mag with 180s in it?

On a weather note we have had another crappy summer in eastern Washington, not very warm days lots of wind, makes it tough to take the boat out.

That would be nice then we can enjoy the boat. LOL Of course then I would have to work in it, which would not be too bad on graveyard
