I am not the only one here with scope problems. Wind was down and the temp was way up yesterday so I decided to try out the new turret on the STW. I was using the 175 PT with 77 grains of H-1000 and Nosler cases. Shooting from the prone position. I put up the target at 320 and dialed in the distance and sent three down range. As expected I was a little low (difference in air density and elevation, the turret is set for 6,000 ft) and slightly to the right. It was a very nice group at 3.6+", more than enough accuracy for my needs. I then dialed in two clicks of elevation and fired three more. These came in at 2.3+", with the same point of impact as the first load. The barrel was hot so I let is set for a while. I then put in another click and sent three more down range. I called a flyer and found that after 5 clicks of elevation, that instead of being up almost 4 inches, the point of impact was still the same.
Scope is boxed up and will be heading to Leupold this morning, with a very sweet letter explaining why I need it back yesterday.

I am sorry to hear that Elkman, if Leupold treats you like they have me in the past the scope with be back before you know it.

Blessings,
Dan

That is disconcerting, to say the least, Bill. I know that Leupold will treat you right; but, it is nonetheless disconcerting to have that experience.

Hope they square you away quickly Bill.

On another note, it seems like you have found the load for the 7STW. That is great shooting buddy. I am certain no bull would wanna hold many of them!

I believe that I may have used much stronger words. I am sure Leupold will get it back soon! The positive side was two great groups. But this also substantiates my fear of changing anything that works. That scope could have just as easily have ended up on my 300 Win Mag. Its twin went on it. !

Well at least Leupold will make it right.

You got that right. When I bought my M70 Featherweight from a friend who said the rifle was "Extremely accurate." I took him at his word. The rifle had no scope but still had the bases. I put a Leupold 3x9X on is and went to the range. After getting it on paper, the groups were horrible On a good day, I might get a 3" groupt but 4 to 5" was more the rule. The barrel did foull pretty badly so I thought that might be the problem. I firelapped it and while fouling was more nrmal groups were still bad. Scrws were checked and found to be tight. Finally, I took it to my friendly gunsmith for a glass bed and trigger job. back at the range and no help, still terrible groups. I got a good deal on a leupold 2x7X so switched scopes. Once I was on paper I shot my first group at 100 yards and it was .75" for 5 shots. I let the gun cool down, fired 5 more and it was slightly smaller. After four five shot groups and giving the rifle time to cool down, the smallest group was .60" the largets 1.00", the average being right at .80". That rifle has become one of my favorites.
I sent the offending scope to Leupold and it was back, fixed and ready to go in just about a week. I certainly have no complaints about the service or turn around time.

As stated they will make it right
They will make it right as they stand by their warranty 100%. But to be honest I got tired of using their 100% warranty so I no longer use leupold scopes.

Ouch! It is true that the warranty I like best is the one I don't have to use.

I have used Leupold for over 35 years and as many know on this forum the many kinds and makes of scopes I have used and owned and I will use Leupold in the field on my hunts for the most part from now on. They are tough, roughed and dependable, light, great eye relief (I have hunted with some cartridges that make you glad you have that 4" plus eye relief of a Leupold when in the prone position shooting in the field). Leupold will be my main scope for the rest of my hunting life. Some of us have different experiences with scopes and I have a short but significant list (the least trouble being Leupold with me, even sent a Zeiss back) of scopes I have had issues with and I am glad we have a lot of options.

Me too Mike. It's nice to know such a great warranty is there if needed but I don't want to use it. Sadly enough I used it several times for the exact reason Elkman is and I got tired of shipping cost even if they are just up the road from me plus that starting over all the time sighting in.

Kind of like my PU insurance. I know I have it and it's there but don't go out to see if it really works.

Same here. While I still have a couple of VX3's and like them, they are the 3.5x10's on my 270 and 7WSM's. They work well and are tops in my eyes of favorite scopes. I had a 4.5x14 and 2.5x8 and neither one was as good to my eyes as the 3.5x10's.. I ditched them and went Minox and have been very happy since then. I actually still will buy another Leupold probably, but it is more because they are are the only ones out there that make the certain models I want, ie Scout Scopes.

Good day all!

I am back from the fire front for a couple of days rest. Had a mandantory two days off after 21 days. I will go back again Wednesday night for thursday AM briefing. Probably be out another 8 or 10 days until this one is completly put to bed. The scope is already back, turn around was right around two weeks. Really great service, I will not have time to test it but will get it back on the rifle as soon as I get back.

Glad to hear you are back buddy! Man, it is getting closer everyday now! Stay safe out there Bill. We will be talking soon.

It's good to see you back and posting again, Bill. Undoubtedly, you've done yeoman's service in protecting citizens this summer. My hat's off to you, sir.
