We knocked off early from work today and I hustled out to the range with the H&R.

Shooter next to me nearly jumped off the bench when I busted the first cap. He thought it was maybe a 243 and did not notice the loaded rounds laying on the table.

Anyhoo.... it took a bit but looks like we be zero'd at 75 yards.

Two hits on the left were final shots before last twik of the Red/Green dot scope I mounted for testing.

No excuse here..... battery went south just as I let go the shot at 9 o'clock. I really do hate battery operated anything.

Gonna put on a conventional scope on it during ammo testing....once I am fixed on a load.... Williams Ghost Ring sight will be mounted for hunting.

FYI.... recoil is less then a 30-06. The jumpy shooter nexted to me got to bust a cap....he agreed...easy on the shoulder.

NOTE: One complaint....not sure if it is due to type powder, H110, or loose chamber, but on the 4th round, I had to pry the case out of the action. Looking into the chamber, it was loaded with carbon and gunk. Shooter next to me had his 50cal BP cleaning kit out... the mop worked great. Cleaned the chamber every 2 rds.

Mortis,

Nicely done. Looks like you are ready to go forth and slay the dragon.

Mine did 1609 fps BUT from my 8" revolver.

I still haven't gotten a new Chrony..... need one.

But I'll wait till I get a load settled in...then chrony that load. but so far, this one seems right.

Next test load will be at 43.3 grains since this is the load we use in our X-Frame Smith.

Maybe chamber wall is rough? Anyhow, nice close range boar setup. Should work great!

No... the chamber is smooth..... it cleaned up quickly with a 50 cal BP mop. It just had alot of gunk in it after the 4th round.

Just an abstract thought here..... maybe the low is low enough that the case is not fully expanding, thus sealing the chamber. But I have no memory of any level of blow back, so this is questionable.

Good luck with that Mortis. The gun is new and maybe it will straighten itself out? One can hope.
