Range test of the new M70 264WM

Will do. Just pulled some cases out of the tumbler and need to get them resized and ready to load. Scotty

Man, it's not like I have any self control to begin with, but you guys are killing me! :) Sweet rifle, buddy!

Sometimes there are some rifles you just can't let pass! Scotty

I seem to be a sucker for cartridges that never caught on hence my 358, 35 Whelen, 264 and such. I like the modern ones too but man oh man if I could find a 35 Newton! Well you know the end of the story.

Mike knows what I speak of. I'm pretty sure he has eyeballed a few 280 Ross's. Scotty

Yes, and Mike is hot on the trail of a Model 10 280 Ross at this moment. Perhaps it will work out this time! You know how those eternal optimists are.

I am in the same boat, 257 Roberts, 280 Rem, 35 Whelen and just maybe........6.5 mm Rem Mag.

Let's see:
Have: .17 Rem, .221 Fireball, 6mm, 7WSM, .300 Sav, .358 Win, .35 Whelen
Want: .222 Rem, .250 Sav, .264 WM, 7x57, 7x61S&H, .300H&H

Yes, I know of what you speak.

That would be a cool score Mike. Kind of along the lines of a Newton.

Those older cartridges were way to cool to not like. That last M10 you sent me pictures of was unreal!

Jim, I hope you find that 6.5. After doing some loading for the 264 last night, it really makes me wish I had a rifle range out my back door. It almost hurts to see those freshly loaded 264/130gr AB's just sitting in the ammo box! Scotty

Don't those, if you load them long like I do, 130 AB's sitting on top of those 264 Win Mag cases make the cartridge look like a Saturn 5 rocket getting ready to blast off to the moon.

I feel your pane. I am a gun-aholic and it has been 2 months since my last fix.
I NEED SOME RANGE TIME.

I checked mine with the 130's and I am 3.295 to the lands. I backed them off to 3.275. Seems like I still have a ton of powder room, so I am not too worried about propellant space. Heck, I think if I see 3250-3300 with them, I will be in business.

Hopefully I can get out shortly and see how they work. Scotty

I let a couple of 6.5 Remington Magnums slip past me at a gun show a couple of years ago. The prices weren't terrible (mildly inflated, but likely negotiable). I won't let that happen again. The Newtons would be a lot of fun. It is cool to hold a piece of history in your hands, realising that with modern propellants and projectiles it would do all that we do today, and maybe more.

That M673 with some of the stuff removed would be a cool rifle. I like the laminated stock and the 22" barrel. Really, it is a very handy package for everything. Scotty

I've wanted a 673 as a stalking rifle for a while. I saw one in 300SAUM and another in 350RemMag. Either would be spectacular with open sights and 200yds and under.

I'm pretty sure one of the guys here (AHEM- Mike) has a sweet 673 350RM. If he would be so kind as to throw some pictures of it up, I wouldn't be so sure a certain other member (AHEM- JD) could resist the 6.5RM in one of them. I think they clean up really well without all the top metal rib and shark fin sights! Scotty

Happy to oblige, Scotty.

I removed the sights and the top rib, as Scotty said. I did pillar bed this rifle and removed the J-lock and replaced the firing pin with a lighter pin for faster lock-up. I enjoy classic, but as it came from the factory, I thought it was a cheesy imitation. However, I do enjoy this now.

Mike, that rifle is quite awesome! I can only imagine one in 6.5 Rem Mag would be cool. Whadda you think Jim? Scotty

I did recently change the scope. I noticed that when I posted the previous photos, the rifle was still wearing a Zeiss. It now wears a Leupold as shown in this photo. I wanted more power in my optics.
