I was just gifted this almost full 4 lb canister of Red Dot but I have never used Red Dot before. What loads have y'all used this for? It's obviously on the old side, but is in excellent condition. I ask this because I do not load for shot shells. Any help would be appreciated.

Nice gift .

I'm still using powder from the old cardboard cans, without problems , unique and blue dot . my one pound cans are priced under $10 .

red dot should be a pistol and shotgun powder .

$10 powder cans.. Amazing!

I use red dot in 9mm with plated bullets, 38 special with plated and lead bullets and 357 mag light target loads with plated and lead bullets. I've probably also tried it in 45colt but can't remember for sure.

Thanks for all the info everyone. It's very hard to see, but the price tag on that can is $30 something for 4 lbs. Wish I could find one pounders for that price!

i'm glad i stocked up on blue dot when i had the chance. for what i have left i should be able to get 7k-8k rounds out of it. i don't recall the charge of the 357sig loads i've done to know exactly how many i can do? i do reload for sg or have the equipment to do so.

I was gifted a pound of Red Dot and about 5 pounds of Blue Dot. I plan on trying them both in my 44 Mags with 240-250 gr hard cast loads this summer.

Red Dot also referred to as Red Dirt by clay target shooters. It is also been around forever and is with credited with more 100 straights in Trap and Skeet in 12ga. It is an excellent powder for 12ga 1oz and 1 1/8oz Target loads 1145fps.
I have not used it in any thing else just 12ga buying 8lbs at a time. The only reason most shotgun shooter no longer use it is because Alliant has been busy with Military Contracts and abandoned reloader’s. It is starting to show up again but at much higher prices than competitors like Hodgen powder. I know a lot of people that would go back to it if it was available and at competitive pricing. Me I have moved on in my Trap and Skeet loads and I was all Alliant previously liking e3 and Greed Dot.
Today I am using Highgun which makes a good handgun powder as well.

HiScore 700X was just offered by Hodgdon a few weeks ago and I grabbed a 4 lber. I've used it for 12 ga trap loads since the 80's.

I'm getting ready to get back into loading, shooting 12ga for skeet and five stand. I have used Red Dot in the past and would again if I find some available. I don't have any on hand and would use it again if available but there are others that will work.

Send 2 lbs of Blue Dot my way, hard to find those powders I used for my .38 Super years ago. :D
Currently replaced Blue Dot with Power Pistol as an alternative and boy its a screamer.
Never used Red Dot, but have used Blue Dot mostly for the Super when I used to be in those weekly local pistol tournaments.
